  1. Should have been 88.
  2. It would mean that he was only briefly a Met. Perhaps a game or two.
  3. A few innings in September, and maybe an emergency start during the summer. Otherwise, Buffalo.
  4. Terry Collins reportedly said today that Byrdak is a "lock" for the bullpen. (Along with Bobby Parnell.)
  5. Then we'd see a whole lot of "They have to sign Pujols! They have to sign Sabathia" stories. (This is the kind of stuff I often see in the Google news feed when I search on "Mets" usually posted by some idiot blogger.* *I'm not implying that all bloggers are idiots, so please, bloggers who read this, don't be offended. But sometimes I think that perhaps the reverse is true, that all idiots are bloggers.
  6. I have a hard time finding the 1995 Mets fan in me. I can get the 1972 version, and the 1985 and 1999 versions, but 1995 is deeply buried.
  7. 15 starts. 6-4, 3.75 ERA.
  8. John Christensen? Kevin Mitchell?
  9. Sounds like the kinda guy we're looking for! Me, I'm still hoping for Robert Abplanalp.
  10. Didn't Jerry Grote have something like a 9-rbi day with the Royals? And he played very few games with them.
  11. It's hard to believe that anyone looking for a silent partner would reach out to Donald Trump.
  12. I'm not inclined to believe much of what Donald Trump says. The Wilpons called him? I'm... dubious.
  13. New York Times wrote: I said, Heres my feelings, Collins said of the meeting. Maybe you need a fresh start. Maybe you need a different role. He said, Well, if thats what you want me to do. I said: No, you have to want to do it. You have to buy into it. If you dont, its not going to work. And so if you feel you want a shot, that you can make this club as a starter, then by God, youre going to be given that opportunity. And then as we get into spring training well see what the results will be. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/02/14/perez-tells-mets-he-wants-to-start/ I've already reached the point where, when I read Terry Collins' words, I hear his voice in my head. I don't get there with many people. I'm rather surprised to find out that I did get there with Terry.
  14. New York Times wrote: (Donald) Trump said Tuesday that Fred Wilpon, the Mets principal owner, had called him to arrange a face-to-face meeting to discuss whether he is interested in buying at least a part of the club. The meeting has not yet been held, said Trump, who made it clear that he would be interested only in buying a majority stake in the team. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/16/sports/baseball/16wilpon.html
  15. Reports coming out today indicate that the Mets will be willing to negotiate with Jose during the season. Not clear if Reyes feels the same way.
  16. Oh! And Clint Hurdle and David Cone.
  17. So, Mets still to come would have to include Saberhagen and Amos Otis and Carlos Beltran.
  18. No Bret Saberhagen???
  19. "Wait until you see Bill Pecota!" That's got to be high on the list of famous/infamous Mets quotes. Maybe that can be next off-season's forum project: compiling and ranking famous Mets quotes.
  20. Deadline extended for a day out of respect for Stan Musial. No, Stan hasn't died. He's being honored somewhere. (Interesting that my Firefox spellchecker recognizes the name "Musial." I tried other fairly unique names from (very roughly) the same era. It likes Koufax and DiMaggio but not Killebrew, Campanella, Yastrzemski, or Drysdale.)
  21. More a gut feeling than anything else, but I'm not getting a good vibe about this Spidey movie. Maybe it's the anime hair that Peter Parker has. Seems like it's not gonna be my generation's Spider-Man.
  22. 80 to 85 seems about right to me. I'd much rather see them win 85 games than 65, but you're right, there's little excitement in 85 wins unless the division (or the wild card) is especially tight.
  23. Edgy DC wrote: What about the Jeter benchmark? If I'm his agent, I cite that, if only to move the needle. In this crazy world of ours, comparing your player to Jeter takes as much audacity as comparing him to Jesus. (Christ, not Alou.) In response the Mets can cough up platitudes about five rings and clutch and all the other gag inducing crap we've been hearing for years. Anyway.... My pick for Reyes in Eleven: 145 games, 95 runs, 10 homers, 11 triples, 35 steals, .280. The Mets won't trade him at the deadline, although they won't be close enough to first place (or the wild card) to really justify keeping him. He'll end up on the free agent market, and it's about 50-50 whether he comes back to the Mets.
