  2. Voting for Tuesday's game against the Reds will close on Friday morning. Schaefer POTG 9/27/11 - Reds 5, Mets 4 I see that I previously said that the final results for September and for the season would be available on Friday. That was incorrect. (We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.) Voting for Wednesday's game will remain open until the weekend.

Chad Ochoseis wrote: I didn't actually see this - was at my GFs apartment and following on Gameday because she doesn't get SNY - but Jason Bay breaking the no-grand-slam streak in the 14-3 Tigers game is the 2011 Metly moment that sticks in my mind. Me too. And not because of the breaking of the streak. I was watching it live, and the ball was one of those deep flies that hugs the foul pole. Bay stood at the plate, his body contorted, his heart in his throat, desperately wanting that ball to be fair. And when it was, he went blank. No fist pump, no smile. Instant stoicism as he started trotting around the bases. It was a very memorable image.
  4. I'm still watching, but not as frequently as I did in previous years, and way less than I did when I was significantly younger. I'm with Willets in that the anger is a turnoff to me too. I don't hear it on WFAN anymore, but I do see it here. I don't get the "Fuck David Wright" comments when he bumbles a ground ball. Or "Fuck Ike Davis" when he goes on the disabled list. Or the calls to assassinate players who are taking up a precious roster spot. (Thinking of 2010 Oliver Perez here.) Geez, it's a game. An entertainment. A diversion.
  5. Especially if he keeps leaving the game in the first inning.
  6. Here's a season that ends with a crisp shutout and a (potential) batting title by a longtime favorite player, and the Mets find a way to give it a sour taste. Nice going! This is the kind of thing that makes me say to myself, "I'm 48 years old. Why do I care about this shit?"
  7. Box score Batista 6 Baxter 2 Evans 1 Satin 1
  8. Yes, congratulations. But, now that you know that you have the power to influence events, I hope you predict a World Series championship for 2012.
  9. Well, doing that (sitting out) could just as easily have hurt his chances as helped them. (And would have hurt his chances, he would have missed those two three-hit games.) Meanwhile, Terry is letting Batista go for the complete game shutout. (I like those!)
  10. TransMonk wrote: Francesa says he's now rooting for Braun. Talk about rat's ass territory.
  11. The classy thing would be for Braun to go 3 for 4, and then stay in the game for the fifth at bat, putting it all on the line. What Terry did today was classless and gutless, but you know what? I still want Jose to win that batting title. (I would, and will, feel differently if I find out that Jose had asked to be removed if he got that first hit.)
  12. I don't recall that. Removing a player to preserve a .250 batting average?!? That strikes me as really pathetic.
  13. Okay, Jose ends the season with 181 hits in 537 at bats. (.3370577) Ryan Braun goes into tonight's game with 187 hits in 559 at bats. (.3345259) Assuming that Braun gets no more than 6 at bats tonight, here's what he has to do to pass Jose: 3 for 3, 3 for 4, 4 for 4, 4 for 5, 4 for 6, 5 for 5, 5 for 6, 6 for 6. A 3 for 5 will not be enough. It would leave him at .3368794.
  14. My main interest in this game was to see how Jose would do. Now we're deep into rat's ass territory.
  15. Turner runs for Reyes. Lame. I agree with the big purple boo.
  16. Well, if that deal is true, and had been accepted, the Yankees would have gotten New Jersey and Westchester on a permanent basis to go with the Mets' permanent claim on Long Island and Connecticut.
  17. Voting for Monday night's loss to the Reds will close on Thursday morning. Schaefer POTG 9/26/11 - Reds 6, Mets 5 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Week for the week ending September 24, 2011 is Ruben Tejada with 8.52 points.
  18. Remember, the Mets participated in a Wild Card playoff game against Cincinnati in 1999.
  19. Capuano 2 Igarashi 1 Reyes 3 Stinson 1 Tejada 1 Thole 1 Wright 1
  20. My vote was "I think that he'll stay." I think they'll come to a deal before anyone else gets a chance to talk to him, during that exclusive negotiating period.
  21. I'll keep it simple, and the poll will remain open for three days.
