  1. Okay, then. How about "before the conventional wisdom"? I think he'll be on the team by May 1. I would say that most people (at least up to now) have been projecting him later than that.
  2. I keep getting more and more of a vibe that Kirk N. will arrive sooner than expected.
  3. Wow, that photo makes it look like Daniel Murphy is controlling the storm clouds, like Thor!
  4. Ceetar wrote: Still need a damn name for the thing. Presumably someone will sponsor it and we can call it the BumbleBee Tuna Float or something. Speaking of that... were the Nationals not able to find a stadium sponsor, or did they decide that they didn't want to go that route?
  5. I just turned on SNY to watch, and I'm blacked out! Oh well.
  6. What about Speed, with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock?
  7. That first link says he may go to Savannah. I had been thinking Kingsport, but Savannah plays a full season. I suppose that if he ends the season in St. Lucie, he'll have done well for himself.
  8. Like, how he has to stop inhaling fungus?
  9. My hunch is that Nieuwenhuis will end up on the big league roster soon than the Mets are officially anticipating. I expect to see him at [crossout:3qdcucl2]Shea[/crossout:3qdcucl2] Citi by early May, and Matt Harvey by mid-June. (Which reminds me... are we doing "Expectations of Twelve" this year?)
  10. The Mayo Clinic wrote: Valley fever is a fungal infection caused by coccidioides (kok-sid-ee-OI-deze) organisms. It can cause fever, chest pain and coughing, among other signs and symptoms. The coccidioides species of fungi that cause valley fever are commonly found in the soil in certain areas. These fungi can be stirred into the air by anything that disrupts the soil, such as farming, construction and wind. The fungi can then be breathed into the lungs and cause valley fever, also known as acute coccidioidomycosis (kok-sid-e-oi-doh-mi-KOH-sis). Mild cases of valley fever usually go away on their own. In more severe cases of valley fever, doctors prescribe antifungal medications that can treat the underlying infection.
  11. They let him play today? Hopefully these aren't the same doctors who treated Ryan Church's concussion by prescribing frequent airplane flights. Valley Fever??? WTF??? Can it be that I'm already sick of the 2012 season???
  12. I've never, ever, been tempted to buy a baseball jersey, but I do like these blue ones. I'm not gonna buy one, because I wouldn't wear a baseball jersey in public, but this is the first time I've ever felt even a twinge of temptation.
  13. The title of this thread is making me crave Alpha-Bits.
  14. "It used to be if a team had the Wild Card locked up, they could start setting their rotation for the playoffs," said the Rangers' Michael Young. Yeah, but in many cases they STILL can. Some teams will have locked up a Wild Card with no reasonable shot at the division title. Also, I'm still waiting to see the tie-breaking rules. What if two teams end in a tie for the division lead? Do they have to have a one-game playoff to determine who is the division winner and who is the wild card? In the past they resolved it with off-the-field tiebreakers, and that was okay because, as we know, the distinction between a division champ and a Wild Card didn't matter much. But now, it's a different story.
  15. Maybe you can also look into selling beepers. Or buying an ice wagon.
  16. I read someone somewhere speculating that if none of the Mets five projected starters break down in spring training (looking at you, Johan!) the Mets will be more willing to spend a couple of million to fill other positions, like perhaps catcher or reserve outfielder. So if that's true, the "no" to Pudge might actually be a "not yet".
  17. On the other hand, it was nice to see the Mets make the front page of the Daily News.
  18. I'm with Willets on this one. If we have to have an additional wild card, I'd rather see it be a best of three. To compress it, you can even make the first day of the series a double-header. If there's not a sweep on day one, then there's another game the next day.

  20. Too many guys seem to be virtually guaranteed a starting job. With a deeper team, Dillon Gee, for example, would have a lot more on the line going into spring training than he does now. So would Andres Torres, Mike Pelfrey, and perhaps Ruben Tejada. Not to mention Jason Bay, who's in a whole other category.
  21. Something about the way their legs overlap doesn't look quite right. Somebody Photoshop Jeff Wilpon into that picture!
  22. I'd prefer the best-of-three, but I don't think it's going to go that way.
  23. The New York Post wrote: Manager Terry Collins indicated that reliever Manny Acosta likely has already earned a roster spot based on his performance last season. Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch, Ramon Ramirez and Tim Byrdak are also assured spots. Among those fighting for the final two spots are Batista, Bobby Parnell, D.J. Carrasco, Pedro Beato, Daniel Herrera and Garrett Olson.
  24. With hindsight, Jeff decided that it may have been a bit of a faux pas to bring Mr. Met along.
