There are a number of reasons to hope that Matt Harvey is not Dwight Gooden.

Yeah, but without that homer, they would have lost in nine innings. Which, I suppose, might have been better than losing in 15 innings...

I remember when there were "long relievers" who might be able to go four or five innings in an extra-inning game. What ever happened to the Pat Mahomes or Tom Gormans of the world? Why do you now have to change pitchers every inning or two, even in an extra inning game?

Wow... a thread that's almost seven years old!

The real answer is that despite how awful he is, he's making money for the station. The real question shouldn't be "why is he on the air?" but instead "why does anyone listen to him?"

I expect that the Mets could have had themselves an All-Star Game in the 1980's if they wanted one.

What are you hoping will happen with Terry Collins?

There are a lot of different estimates of what percentage of the U.S. populate is gay (or bisexual), but let's go with 4 per cent, because that seems reasonable. (To me, anyway.) That means that 38 of the 952 Mets were gay. Name them! Whoever gets all 38 wins a year's supply of Turtle Wax and Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco treat!

I did feel a sense of foreboding when Buck dropped that pop foul. I was really hoping that it wouldn't come back to bite them, but it very much did.

Back in the 1970's and 1980's I also was really hoping that Shea would get an All-Star Game, but this 2013 game means nothing to me. But it's not a reflection on the Wilpons, or on it being Citi instead of Shea; it's just that I've lost all interest in the institution of the All-Star Game. And maybe that's because a lot of the players will be unfamiliar to me.

He would also be a good candidate for demotion, certainly.

I did. I was up until 4 a.m. watching that game. It came during the period after I had graduated college, but before I found a job, so since I didn't have to get up in the morning, I was able to stick it out. That game was so much fun to watch. And the late hour made it even more special somehow. I recall that at around 3 a.m., Steve Zabriskie starting recapping the game to that point, and he said, "If you're just tuning in..." (pause) "...write to us to tell us why!"
