  1. Why are all the true prodigies in high school? I don't think I've heard that before. Is it because the better players choose to start their professional careers sooner? I imagine that the lure of a big signing bonus would induce a lot of kids to opt out of going to college.
  2. Thanks for noticing! Finding a new way to portray David Wright was definitely something I took into consideration. I have very few openings left for David; I've already cheated once by going outside the 1970's for that Kranepool card. All that's left in my favorite baseball card decade are 1974, 1976, and 1979.
  3. Thinking that D-Day was on June 5 isn't as bad as thinking that 1944 was 50 years ago.
  4. I'm with Vic on this one. I want them to take the best available player, and I hope that player is a college position player. I'm particularly hoping for a power-hitting outfielder.
  5. Matsuzaka had 3.86 points as a starter and 5.23 as a reliever.
  6. Voting for Monday night's win in Philadelphia will close on Friday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 6/2/14 - Mets 11, Phillies 2 SCHAEFER METS PLAYER OF THE WEEK, 2014 Week ending April 5: Juan Lagares, 5.68 points. Week ending April 12: Eric Young, 4.89 points. Week ending April 19: David Wright, 5.25 points. Week ending April 26: Lucas Duda, 5.22 points. Week ending May 3: Chris Young, 5.50 points. Week ending May 10: David Wright, 5.58375 points. (Just 0.00042 ahead of Dillon Gee's 5.58333 points.) Week ending May 17: Jacob deGrom, 4.89 points. Week ending May 24: Curtis Granderson, 5.86 points. Week ending May 31: Jacob deGrom, 6.80 points.
  7. SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE MONTH, MAY 2014 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for May 2014 is DAVID WRIGHT. This is David's first win since July 2012. He has been Player of the Month a record 14 times. He led the Mets in batting average (.320) and hits (41). His slugging percentage (.461) and runs batted in (15) were second to Curtis Granderson (.465 and 17) who held the May lead in Schaefer points as late as May 27. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month is JACOB deGROM. Jacob is, obviously, a first-time winner as May 2014 was his first month ever in the major leagues. In 4 starts in May, he was 0-2, but had a 2.42 ERA in 26 innings. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is first-time winner JEURYS FAMILIA. Familia appeared in 18 games in May and had and 0-0 record with 1 save and a 1.93 ERA over 18.2 innings. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for May is ERIC CAMPBELL. Eric earned 1.68 points in May in games in which he was not in the starting lineup, finishing ahead of Bobby Abreu (0.99) and Ruben Tejada (0.64). Last month's winner, former Met Ike Davis, still holds the season lead and has a shot at winning Bench Player of the Year on the strength of his April walk-off grand slam. 15. This is totally becoming a Munsters forum, and I didn't see it coming at all.
  16. I agree; the original dimensions were absurd and I'm glad they added that blue fence. I don't think further adjustments are necessary. Has anyone tracked how many homers, both by the Mets and by visitors, have gone over the blue fence but would not have been home runs in 2009?
  17. And why would they be worrying about paying a high salary to Ike Davis in 2107, when he'll be 120 years old? Or even 2017 for that matter? I think they traded him because he's shown the ability to suck really badly for extended periods.
  18. I heard the third of those home runs on a little transistor radio while sitting in the waiting area at Penn Station.
