  1. Throw me the name of a player from the 1980's, and I can almost certainly tell you whether or not he was a Met. For the 2000's? Not so much. I saw something that recently referred to Jose Offerman as a former Met, and my first thought was, "That's not right." I haven't looked it up yet, but I'm not sure if I was right or wrong in saying that Offerman wasn't a Met. I've been aware of every player as they've come and gone. I've been maintaining a database! But once they're gone, many of them aren't sticking in my memory anymore.
  2. Yes. And one of the others is a tree.
  3. Oh, they're definitely going to be in the same universe. I imagine it will all be tied together by the third Avengers movie, if not sooner.
  4. I saw this headline on Google News: John Jay's Panik, a Giants infielder, to face Mets in NYC and thought that the Giants had signed a racehorse to play in their infield.
  5. I'll probably see it in the theaters and fairly soon, but I feel the way Namor does; it's the first Marvel movie (from Marvel Studios, anyway) that I have little enthusiasm for. I waited for cable to see the rebooted Amazing Spider-Man, and will probably do the same for its sequel.
  6. Interesting that the Mets have a four-game series coming up against a team currently holding a wild card spot that's six games ahead of them. A sweep, as improbable as it is, would leave them only two games behind the Giants. Of course, if that were to happen, the Giants would very likely no longer have the wild card spot. Either way, it does seem like the Mets are a four-game sweep away from moving away from the fringe and closer to the heart of the group of contenders. Now all they have to do is win four games in a row against the San Francisco Giants. Improbable, perhaps, but not impossible. Let's make it happen!
  7. Voting for Monday's win against the Phillies will close on Friday, some time after 2 p.m. Schaefer POTG 7/28/14 - Mets 7, Phillies 1
