  9. Thank you everyone! I do like how these graphs tell a story, not a complete story, but a story nonetheless. 1973 certainly doesn't look like a championship season. And look at that steep ascent in the second half of 1969. 2010 really looked like it could've been something, but July killed them. (That little peak sticking up in September of that year surprised me. I didn't remember them going above .500 that late in the season.) If anyone has any suggestions of other ways I might be able to turn data into graphics, I'd love to hear them. I can't promise I'd be able to do it, but I'd still love to hear the suggestions.
  10. In the Daily News, Andy Martino looks back 30 years at the marathon game the Mets played in Atlanta in 1985: Memory of legendary 1985 Mets vs. Braves 4th of July game lives on 30 years later And in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Frank Fitzpatrick has this article about the 50th anniversary of the fight between former Met (and CPF poster!) Frank Thomas and Dick Allen. 50 years on, the Dick Allen-Frank Thomas fight still resonates
  11. On each season's "Charts and Graphs" tab:
  12. I seem to recall that there was a lot of talk about how this was going to be the Mets year to contend. Not everyone necessarily bought in to that expectation, but I think it was more than a small minority.
  13. Verrett 2 Granderson 1
  14. I think I once posted here that I was opposed to Wally Backman because he was a psychopath, and, although he probably still is, I think I'm ready for the Wally Era. Bring it on. Why not?
  15. Nymr83 wrote: But for the Mets the 1-year nature of that contract could be appealing even if its more per year than he would get on the market. That's kind of what I'm thinking.
  16. Wow, his wife (or girlfriend, or sister, or whatever) is much better looking than he is.
  17. I'm starting to wonder if this pathetic offense that the Mets have might actually make it more likely that Daniel Murphy will return in 2016. I had gone into this season certain that this was going to be his last year as a Met, but now, suddenly, I'm less sure of that. Might they at least roll the dice and make him the $15 million qualifying offer?
  18. Fortunately, I only watch a few innings at a time. I did happen to have been watching when that failed suicide squeeze occurred. Yeesh, what a fuck-up. I did watch most of the "double-header" action on Sunday, and it paid off. But for the last few years, whenever I find myself having spent two hours or more watching the Mets, I often seem to end up regretting it.
