  1. It's strange that WIL' TO WIN and THE WRIGHT TRACK both feature Daniel Murphy on the cover, instead of, respectively, Wilmer Flores and David Wright, who are only seen in insets.
  2. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Mets beat the Marlins again to extend their winning streak to five games. The come from behind multiple times against Tampa Bay to win their seventh straight. A poor game from Noah Syndergaard ends the winning streak at seven games. A key hit from Daniel Murphy gets the Mets a comeback win. David Wright starts his rehab in Florida.
  3. On Mets Hot Stove today, David Lennon of Newsday said that Zobrist is the Mets number one free agent target.
  4. Nope, sorry. This is where the rubber hits the road, and difficult decisions must be made.
  5. This is a good batch. I voted for JUST DU IT, TIE SOCIETY, and START SPREADIN' THE NEWS. But yeah, I could've voted for any one of them.
  6. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Wilmer Flores, days after being seen crying on the field, delivers a walk-off home run. Lucas Duda hits two homers, leading the Mets to a win over the Nationals. The Mets complete a sweep of the Nationals, leaving them in a tie for first place. A win over the Marlins puts the Mets all alone in first place.
  7. I saw a headline saying that 50 Cent is now a Mets fan because of some kind of an underwear dispute with Derek Jeter. I don't know, nor do I want to know, the details.
  8. Centerfield wrote: Yes, but somehow you had the foresight to do this before the season. That's the great part. Well, no, not really. I thought of this in September, and then I decided to backtrack to August, and then July and then said, what the hell, let's go all the way back to February. I probably will start capturing 2016 pages in February, but the question is whether or not I stick with it throughout the season. If I do, then we'll do this again next year.
  9. Lefty Specialist wrote: Isn't it amazing to look at these with the benefit of hindsight? Wilmer crying and the fiasco of the Gomez non-deal and an epic collapse in the rain, it looked like we'd bought tickets on the Hindenburg. But then........ I think this is a fun way to recap the season, with these pages serving as quick snapshots. I don't yet know if I'll do this again in 2016, but I think it's working well this year because 2015 had a particularly dramatic arc.
  10. Ceetar wrote: I'm not sure accuracy is on a list of priorities for the Post, but does someone want to explain to them what exactly "one and done" means, and maybe "blockbuster" too? ONE AND DONE: The "one" refers to the Mets being one game out of first place and the "done" refers to Mejia's suspension for the remainder of the season.
  11. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. New Met Juan Uribe delivers a walk-off win against the Dodgers. Mets acquire reliever Tyler Clippard from Oakland. Jenrry Mejia is suspended again. A win by Noah Syndergaard puts the Mets one game behind Washington. Thinking he was traded to Milwaukee, Wilmer Flores is seen crying on the field. A crushing loss on a rainy night at Citi Field.
  12. Thank you! Participation seems to be pretty good, so I assume that people are enjoying it, at least a little bit.
  13. I know. I'm hoping that the Mets will pay for the trip this time around. It's a much less expensive alternative than increasing the payroll.
  14. Me too.
  15. If so, we can call him Gavin Glenn Christopher Joseph Xander Boegarts Cecchini.
  16. Yes, a lot of misery on this page. But as we know, things are about to get a lot better in a hurry. For me, this is the mystical part of the season, because I was out of the country from July 21 through August 5 and was only able to get quick glimpses of what was going on with the Mets. When I returned to the U.S. it was like a Twilight Zone episode because the whole vibe around the Mets had completely changed.
  17. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. The Mets suffer a brutal loss in Washington. Clayton Kershaw shuts out the "sleepwalking" Mets as Sandy "keeps on snoozing." The Mets make some moves, acquiring Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe and promoting Michael Conforto. Conforto makes good first impression as a Met.
  18. All eight polls from Round One, Group One have now closed, and it is time to reveal the first eight covers that will advance to the second round. The Daily News did well in Group One, with four of the eight winning covers. The New York Post and Newsday each have two winning entries in this group. Round Two voting will begin in early December. The eight winning covers will be seeded according to the percentage of votes received in the first round. If any polls end in a tie, there will be a special three-day tie-breaker polling thread that will allow us to explore the depths of our feelings about each cover. Round 1.1.1, Number 1 Seed: N.Y. CITI (New York Post) Round 1.1.2, Number 6 Seed: YOU'RE DAMN WRIGHT (Daily News) Round 1.1.3, Number 7 Seed: OLD TIMER'S DAY (Newsday) Round 1.1.4, Number 8 Seed: QUEENS FOR A DAY (Daily News) Round 1.1.5, Number 2 Seed: de7 TRAIN (Daily News) Round 1.1.6, Number 3 Seed: RUNAWAY TRAIN! (New York Post) Round 1.1.7, Number 5 Seed: JUAN DIRECTION (Daily News) Round 1.1.8, Number 4 Seed: THOR'S DAY (Newsday) Tentative schedule: December 5: THOR'S DAY vs. JUAN DIRECTION December 6: RUNAWAY TRAIN! vs. YOU'RE DAMN WRIGHT December 7: de7 TRAIN vs. OLD TIMER'S DAY December 8: N.Y. CITI vs. QUEENS FOR A DAY
  19. Janice from Accounting don't give a fuck!
  20. I think you're overthinking this, but that's your prerogative.
  21. It's still a perfect inning. In baseball terms, perfect means you got everybody out, not that you only threw strikes. In all the perfect games in baseball history, none of them have been achieved by throwing 81 pitches, all of them strikes.
  22. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: I'm a big fan of the Newsday layouts, and think they've had it all over the Post and News contenders presented here, generally. I agree. I think that overall, Newsday's covers are the most pleasing to the eye. Great photos and less clutter.
  23. Lefty Specialist wrote: Going Batty was the best picture but Break up the Mets! (Please) was the best caption. So I'm torn. You can vote for both of them if you like. In the first round, you can vote for as many as three. Once Round 2 begins, you'll be limited to one selection.
  24. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. The Mets aren't hitting, so they rely on their pitchers. The Post outlines how the Mets (and the Yankees) can make the playoffs in 2015. The Mets win an 18-inning game, consider calling up Michael Conforto. Matt Harvey has a bad night in Washington. The Mets "explode" for seven runs and defeat the Nationals.
