  2. Maria Guardado, NJ.com wrote: The Mets have filled their bench coach vacancy. Dick Scott will replace Bob Geren as manager Terry Collins' right-hand man in the dugout, the Mets announced Wednesday. Geren was hired away by the Los Angeles Dodgers last month to carry out the same position. Scott, 53, has been the team's Director of Player Development since 2013 and was the Mets' Minor League Field Coordinator from 2011-12. Prior to joining the Mets, Scott was the Houston Astros' Minor League Field Coordinator in 2010 and served as the Toronto Blue Jays' Director of Player Development from 2001-09. Scott has experience coaching in the minor leagues with the Oakland Athletics and Arizona Diamondbacks and was named the 1994 Minor League Manager of the Year by USA Today Baseball Weekly. Scott was drafted by the Yankees as a shortstop in the 17th round of the 1981 draft. He spent 10 seasons in the Yankees and Athletics organizations and played in three major league games with the 1989 World Champion A's.
  3. I've never heard of him! I just Googled "Dick Scott" and the first hits are for a Chrysler dealer in Plymouth, Michigan. We may need to send MGIM to scout the place out.
  4. Yeah, I don't think Sandy was "forced" on Fred. I think Bud suggested Sandy and Fred said okay.
  5. . Winner of Round 1.3.6 CAPITAL THRILL! New York Post, September 8, 2015 A three-run 7th inning gives the Mets an 8-5 win over the Nationals in Washington. Winner of Round 1.3.1 TEARS TO CHEERS! New York Post, August 1, 2015 Wilmer Flores leads off the 12th inning with a home run, to give the Mets a 2-1 win over the Nationals at Citi Field. . . . . . .
  6. I agree about how bad the movie Cobb was. It was about as bad a baseball movie as I've ever seen.
  7. That posthumous thing isn't working out so well for Shoeless Joe Jackson so far. 64 years dead a little over a week ago.

  9. I wonder if they can get him on one of those contracts where he can opt out after two years? There's no guarantee that he would opt out, but it may be a sneaky way to get him on a shorter term. (The problem, of course, is that he'd opt out if he's underpaid, based on his performance, and stick around if he's overpaid.)
  10. That's what she said.
  11. I'm sorry to say I had no idea that Edgy was referring to our own G-Fafif. I thought it had something to do with this guy:
  12. I think this is the first time we've had two Daily News covers match up against each other.
  13. . Winner of Round 1.3.7 YES-PEDES New York Daily News, September 10, 2015 Helped by an 8th-inning two-run homer by Yoenis Cespedes, the Mets beat the Nationals 5-3 in Washington, completing a key September series sweep. Winner of Round 1.3.2 THE HIGH LIFE New York Daily News, August 5, 2015 A 5-1 win in Miami gives the first-place Mets a five-game winning streak. . . . . . .
  14. Voting for all four polls in Round 2.1 is now complete and we have our first four covers to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The Daily News entered this round in a strong position with four covers but came up empty in losing all four polls, twice to the Post and twice to Newsday. Poll 2.1.1 THOR'S DAY (Newsday) defeated JUAN DIRECTION! (Daily News) 10 to 4. Poll 2.1.2 RUNAWAY TRAIN! (New York Post) defeated YOU'RE DAMN WRIGHT (Daily News) 9 to 7. Poll 2.1.3 OLD TIMER'S DAY (Newsday) defeated de7 TRAIN! (Daily News) 9 to 6. Poll 2.1.4 N.Y. CITI (New York Post) defeated QUEENS FOR A DAY! (Daily News) 12 to 8. Tentative schedule: December 21: RUNAWAY TRAIN! vs. OLD TIMER'S DAY December 22: N.Y. CITI vs. THOR'S DAY . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
  15. LARGE & IN CHARGE is the Post, not the News.
  16. Which way was Pete betting?
  17. I voted for the less cluttered INSIDE EDITION, which is currently trailing 10 to 3. It looks like cooby's friend with the yellow dress isn't likely to advance to the third round.
  18. ESPN.com wrote: Pete Rose remains banned for life from Major League Baseball. Commissioner Rob Manfred announced Monday that Rose's banishment will stay in place for gambling on baseball. Rose was initially banned in 1989. "Mr. Rose's public and private comments, including his initial admission in 2004, provide me with little confidence that he has a mature understanding of his wrongful conduct, that he has accepted full responsibility for it, or that he understands the damage he has caused," Manfred said in his decision. MLB said Manfred contacted Rose on Monday to inform him of the ruling. Manfred also tried to clarify that this does not affect Rose's eligibility for the Hall of Fame. "In my view, the considerations that should drive a decision on whether an individual should be allowed to work in Baseball are not the same as those that should drive a decision on Hall of Fame eligibility," Manfred wrote. "... Any debate over Mr. Rose's eligibility for the Hall of Fame is one that must take place in a different forum." Manfred said Rose can continue to make appearances in ceremonial activities connected to MLB.
  19. Centerfield wrote: The problem is, I have yet to see anyone accomplish this. The Atlanta Braves had a long stretch where this plan was working for them. What was it, twelve straight division titles?
  20. I think what he's saying is that the Mets don't want to go all in for 2016 at the expense of future seasons. Chuck isn't saying anything about "either/or".
  21. . Winner of Round 1.3.4 LARGE & IN CHARGE New York Post, August 27, 2015 In Philadelphia, Bartolo Colon throws 7 scoreless innings to lead the Mets to a 9-4 win. Tiebreaker Winner of Round 1.3.5 INSIDE EDITION Newsday, September 3, 2015 Ruben Tejada hits an inside-the-park homer at Citi Field as the Mets beat the Phillies 9-4. . . . . . .
  22. I think that 2016 will be an opportunity for Hansel Robles to step forward. But I do think they want to add a lefty to the pen, and my guess is that Blevins will be that guy.
  23. Blevins and Bastardo are still out there last I checked.
  24. . Winner of Round 1.3.3 WRIGHT OFF THE BAT! Newsday, August 25, 2015 In his return to action after a long stint on the disabled list, David Wright homers in his first at bat in Philadelphia. The Mets beat the Phillies 16-7. Winner of Round 1.3.8 AS GOOD AS IT METS New York Post, September 27, 2015 David Wright and Matt Harvey celebrate the Mets clinching of the National League East in Cincinnati. . . . . . .
