  1. Yes, this is a particularly weak batch, with four covers devoted to Cespedes' cars and one to his golf playing.

  5. If someone presented me with the name "Torey Lovello" I would have bet a thousand dollars that she was the star of a new show on The Disney Channel.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: Tom Seaver, of course, was totally jobbed by Fernandomania in 1981. And by Ferguson Jenkins ten years earlier. I think Seaver named his cat "Ferguson Jenkins" as a result of Jenkins beating him out for the 1971 Cy Young Award.
  7. Still no votes for GOOD NEWS, BIRD NEWS. The only cover that's received no love at all in this thread.
  8. And note the Post's craven use of the YESPEDES cover, trying to steal the magic from last year's winning Daily News entry.
  9. That one's about as stupid as they come, isn't it?

  11. Edgy MD wrote: The Jim Henderson outrighting also (1) should give joy to Centerfield by clearing a path for a bullpen slot for Seth Lugo, and (2) makes the letters from the back of his jersey available on the cheap should Steve Henderson join the Mets' staff. I suppose Florence Henderson might be a possibility as well. I'd hire her as bench coach just for her Wessonality alone.
  12. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: I cared about the cap. I went with all the HOF covers, assuming that the Cespedes signs covers will be better and a thing of beauty to be treasured! Assuming those will be in the next batch. I cared about that cap too. Not to any great degree, but sure, I'd rather see an NY on his cap than an LA. Why wouldn't I? But when Gary Carter got an elb on his cap, I said to myself, "Oh well." No angst. No tooth-gnashing. The cap on the plaque is worth caring about, but only a little bit. For some reason though, calling a baseball cap a "hat" seems wrong to me. I mean, technically it is a hat, but "cap" seems more correct. And yes, the Cespedes signing will be in the next batch of covers. Come back tomorrow!
  13. Wasn't he in their broadcast booth this year?
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Same goddamn artist as the Shuckers and Jumbo Shirmp and Yard Goats and Flying Squirrels I'll bet Yeah, there's such a dispiriting sameness to all of these logos. Yeah, sure, one is a horse and another is a clam and there are inchworms and onions and shoelaces and paperclips or whatever, but none of them make me at all tempted to spend a nickel on merchandise. The last minor league logo I remember liking was this one, because I liked the way it incorporated the major league club's logo. But I didn't spend a nickel on that one either, although at least I thought about it!
  15. Edgy MD wrote: That's what you get for hopin'. I guess I'll try to take comfort in the fact that they only went with the second-worst choice.

  17. I just noticed that text at the bottom of TOP HAT: SANDY: CESPEDES NOT RIGHT FOR METS
  18. News reports today indicate that the victim was in fact Familia's wife.
  19. "Oh, Ashley! If Mr. Cespedes were to go to Washington, that would be mah worst natmare!"

  21. I don't think it's all that uncommon for there to be uncertainty on November 2. The picture will become more clear (and hopefully brighter too, but we'll see about that) in the next few months. For me, Mets Hot Stove is required viewing in November and December. I'm eager for news of off-season developments.
  22. I think UniWatch did a thing a year or so ago where it showcased submitted designs about what modern Cleveland Spiders uniforms might look like.
  23. You also overlooked Teddy Martinez.
  24. And I'll confess that I've never even seen either of those movies.
  25. Geez, I hope it's not "Stud Muffins" or "Rumble Ponies"
