  1. The second week of voting is now complete, and five more covers have joined our Sweet Sixteen alongside the five from the first week. (See above.) The ten covers that have advanced so far include four from the New York Post and three each from the Daily News and Newsday. The final three polls of Round One will be posted on Monday through Wednesday of next week. Second round voting will begin on Wednesday, December 6.
  2. I think his name was Rodney McCray? If I remember right, he was with some other organization when that happened, but he later joined the Mets. G-Fafif would know for sure.
  3. It looks like not everybody is understanding the denominator thing. Chipper Jones has now been selected on 19 ballots out of a total of 14 that were cast. If you've voted, please edit your choices to include a check next to the I VOTED option.
  4. As I understand it, it's Ohtani's decision to make. Once he selects a team to sign with, that team will send a $20 million payment to Japan. Some teams can offer him more money to sign (as a bonus) but his contract will be at the major league minimum. The buzz is that Ohtani cares more about opportunity than dollars (or yen) and won't necessarily sign with the team with the most money to offer from its bonus pool. However, the Yankees are at or near the top, and that, along with their (unfortunate and misguided) international appeal seems to make them the favorite. My hope is that he'll meet with Mickey Calloway and be swayed by Mickey's promise of undying love and affection.
  5. The "CA-BOOM" headline was clearly put in place to pander to CPF voters for the Tabloid Cover Derby. And it just may work! (I voted for it.)
  6. Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. INFIELDER'S CHOICE Newsday, June 24, 2017. AS' CLOWNS! 7. Well, there's John Rocker and Roger Clemens.
  8. What does Steamer say about Wilmer Flores? Or Jose Reyes?
  9. It took me a moment to realize what you meant by "tripled down".
  10. I guess I'd be okay with one of those deals where the Mets just give up token talent, what would be a salary relief trade from Detroit's perspective. What effect the $11 million would have on the Mets budget is something we can't exactly know, but presumably, if the Mets make such a deal, it would be because they've determined that they can afford it. Kinsler is in the final season of an eleven-year contract, according to Baseball Reference: 2018 Contract Status: Signed thru 2018, 11 yrs/$102.5M (08-18)
  11. I'm not sure I understand the apostrophe after CLAY. Is it because it's short for CLAYTON? You don't write ROB' for ROBERT or PETE' for PETER.

  13. Let us know if you get any responses! (And if you do, we'll have to translate them to Swedish and forward to the home office.)
  14. We'll be taking a longer weekend break this time around because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Today's poll will be the last until Monday, November 27. Next week we'll see the final three polls from the first round. After that, there will be another break, and second-round voting will begin on Wednesday, December 6.
  15. Chipper has, at the moment, been named on almost 117 per cent of the ballots. (7 out of 6.) Would that be enough to get in?
  16. This one is currently a four-way tie! I hope there are more votes pending!
  17. This is a final appeal for someone to break the tie between GOD OF BLUNDER and THORRIBLE. If the voting is still tied when the poll closes tomorrow morning, a head-to-head three-day tiebreaker poll will be posted.
  18. Jon Heyman wrote: The Mets, Angels and Phillies are new surprise players for Indians free agent first baseman Carlos Santana in what could wind up being spirited bidding for the second-best first-base option on the market. At least the Red Sox, Mariners and incumbent Indians also are believed to have interest in Santana, who is thought to be drawing interest from as many as 10 teams.
  19. We've seen examples of "AS" for "ASS" for "Asdrubal" a number of times last season, and now we're seeing it again. It continues to be stupid. YAY BRUCE is my favorite of these, but I also voted for HERE WE YO.

  22. Perhaps he's different with paying customers.
  23. The sale to the Mets was officially approved by the Syracuse Chiefs shareholders today. http://www.syracuse.com/chiefs/index.ssf/2017/11/syracuse_chiefs_shareholders_approve_sale_to_new_york_mets.html
  24. I feel like maybe there should be a Larry Walker in there somewhere?
