  1. The rumors are that they're willing to discuss Nimmo but not Conforto.
  2. I had forgotten that Daniel Murphy was a free agent this winter. I did some Googling and found this, on NJ.com, from last week: The Yankees have reached out to Murphy's representation to express interest, NJ Advance Media has learned. Murphy is expecting his agents to meet with Yankees GM Brian Cashman during the Winter Meetings, which will be held in Las Vegas from Dec. 9-13. It's believed that Murphy is seeking a two-year contract. Murphy could be a great fit for the Yankees, whose lineup is very right-handed heavy. Also, he potentially could temporarily fill the Yankees' early season middle infield hole by starting at second base with Gleyber Torres moving from second to shortstop until Didi Gregorius returns from Tommy John surgery in May, June or July. Once Gregorius is back, Murphy could platoon at first base with Luke Voit while getting some starts at designated hitter. The Yankees' known competition for Murphy? The Houston Astros.
  3. It's possible that someone like Plawecki would be part of a package for Realmuto, but I'm sure it would be in addition to a Nimmo, not instead of. Would Plawecki and Lugo get it done? I really doubt it.
  4. I'm hoping his plan is to win now, and give himself time to figure out how to also win four or five years from now.
  5. I (mostly) agree with that. There's no harm in talking to the Marlins. In fact, they should talk to the Marlins. But the part about them being "aggressive" in their pursuit of Realmuto is concerning. They need to back off if the price is too high. The reports indicate that Miami asked for Conforto and the Mets said no. If that's true, and if it holds up, it will at least tell us that the Mets aren't fully casting caution to the winds.
  6. I don't think he's planning on a tear down. That may eventually happen if things don't go well, but I don't think it's part of the plan.
  7. I get the feeling that Brodie is thinking, "Wow! Trading is fun!"
  8. Mike Puma wrote: ...the two sides remained far apart on Tuesday, according to an industry source, based largely on the Mets’ reluctance to include Michael Conforto in a deal. The Mets appear willing to use Brandon Nimmo as the centerpiece for the trade, but that likely would not be enough to get Realmuto. The Mets could also look to use Amed Rosario in a deal. What could be holding up Mets’ pursuit of J.T. Realmuto I'd rather they just signed Ramos or Grandal.
  9. As Round Two begins today, let's take a look at our brackets. You'll note that there's still at tiebreaker in progress for the 14th slot. Our 22 first-round polls resulted in fourteen wins for the Daily News, five (maybe six) for Newsday, and two (maybe three) for the New York Post. Ten covers received a first-round bye (Eight from the News and one each from Newsday and the Post) and the Daily News has already clinched ten of the spots in the Sweet Sixteen.
  10. Winner of Round 1.01 BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE New York Daily News, January 18, 2018. The Mets have signed Jay Bruce and Adrian Gonzalez, but they're not done yet! Winner of Round 1.09 WHO'S UP FIRST? New York Daily News, May 10, 2018. An embarrassing moment for Mickey Callaway lands on the front page of the Daily News.
  11. DEGROMINATION Newsday, November 15, 2018. CY OF THE TIMES New York Post, November 15, 2018.
  12. Kristie Ackert wrote: The Mets are talking to David Wright about a settlement that would take him off their roster. Wright, who has undergone several major surgeries on his spine over the last four years, is physically unable to play. He has not declared himself retired, as that would require him to forfeit the remaining $27 million on his contract. Jeff Wilpon said Tuesday they are working on a deal. "The biggest thing is to see if we can work something out where he can come off the roster so we save another player potentially," Wilpon said.
  13. Jon Heyman wrote: Marlins heard from 14 teams regarding star C JT Realmuto this winter, including 3 in division (all but Nats, who tried hardest last year). From Mets, top 2 targets would be Brandon Nimmo and Amed Rosario. Braves less likely since have Flowers/McCann, r targeting an OF, pitchers. Mike Puma wrote: Hearing it’s unlikely the Mets would put Michael Conforto in any potential deal for J.T. Realmuto.
  14. This is all just wild speculation, but I would hope they wouldn't trade Rosario until they had locked down his replacement.
  15. Ken Rosenthal wrote: #Marlins want at least one controllable major-league asset as centerpiece for Realmuto. #Mets have Conforto/Nimmo/Rosario, but would need to replace whoever they traded in FA market or other deals. Teams engaged. NYM aggressive. Matz is controllable. Maybe we can hypnotize the Marlins into accepting Matz?
  16. What if it's a "Make Room For Manny" deal?
  17. Mets appear to commit to Noah Syndergaard, who’s thrilled Greg Joyce, New York Post wrote: Van Wagenen said the Mets’ “chips are in” to win now and that it would take “very special circumstances for us to even consider” trading Syndergaard, who has three years left on his contract.
  18. Corbin to sign with Washington, according to ESPN.
  19. Centerfield wrote: Basically Jeff Wilpon is our GM, and Brodie is his spokesman. I doubt that that's the case. More likely it's that Jeff wants to share in the glory of the moment, and since he's there, he's going to get questions directed at him.
  20. I'd rather they pay Cano $20 million to pinch hit once a week.
  21. I figure he'll be here for at least three years. Maybe back to the AL for the last two if the Mets send along enough salary relief.
  22. I nominate Jim Brockmire.
  23. New York Mets executive Jeff Wilpon said the team aggressively pushed to acquire Edwin Diaz in part to "block" the rival Philadelphia Phillies from trading for the All-Star closer. Wilpon told reporters Tuesday that the Mets believed that if they failed to agree on a deal with the Mariners, Seattle would ultimately trade Diaz to Philadelphia. Jeff Wilpon: Mets wanted to 'block' rival Phillies from All-Star closer Edwin Diaz Psst! Jeff! The Phillies are also interested in Bryce and Manny!
  24. I'm not yet convinced that McNeil has lost his job. I can see a scenario either where McNeil plays third (at Frazier's expense) or he stays at second and Cano plays first. But we'll learn more over the next couple of months.
