  1. The first report I'm seeing is that a "Quality Control Coach" is a liaison between the front office and the coaching staff. It sounds like he'll be in uniform in the dugout spying on Mickey and the other coaches.
  2. Jon Heyman wrote: Not sure what the Marlins precise trade request is from Mets for Realmuto. But heard Mets do not want to do Conforto-Nimmo combo, and they don’t want to trade Rosario at all.
  3. Jon Heyman wrote: Mets are about to name Chili Davis hitting coach, Chuck Hernandez bullpen coach and Luis Rojas Quality Control coach. Rojas was the Mets’ double-a manager last year. What's a Quality Control Coach?
  4. At first I thought this would be an easy win for NATIONAL TREASURE, but when it came time to vote, I realized I liked GSELL THE MAN! more. It's a more dynamic cover, and I don't like when covers have the headline obscuring too much of the player, as we see in NATIONAL TREASURE. GSELL THE MAN! is, by the way, one of only two surviving New York Post covers. Half of their eggs are in this basket.
  5. Me too. I liked him for about a month or two when he first came up in 1985 before I realized that he was a useful idiot.
  6. As I recall, I liked the 1986 Mets.
  7. Winner of Round 1.08 GSELL THE MAN! New York Post, April 21, 2018. Robert Gsellman is the hero of the 12th inning in Atlanta. Winner of Round 1.20 NATIONAL TREASURE Newsday, September 22, 2018. Jacob deGrom pitches seven strong innings in Washington to notch his ninth win of the season.
  8. Winner of Round 1.15 RED WHITE & BLEW New York Daily News, July 4, 2018. The Mets are spending Independence Day in Canada, and the bullpen blows a lead to the Blue Jays. Tiebreaker winner of Round 1.22 DEGROMINATION Newsday, November 15, 2018. Jacob deGrom wins the Cy Young award in a landslide.
  9. Andy Martino wrote: It's probably too soon to say that there is momentum for a universal DH, but let's put it this way -- many folks in the game believe that the change will occur before Cano's contract expires. The Mets surely know this, and while they acquired Cano with every intention to keep him at second base until further notice, it's possible they will have an appealing option for him as he nears 40.
  10. That's his only remaining cover, so he has all his chips riding on that one. The results of this thing are always surprising, but my guess is that the winning cover will be either this David Wright cover, or one of the covers featuring deGrom or Flores. Or maybe that Rusty Staub cover...
  11. I'm not so thrilled with the 5 through 8 positions in that lineup. But I expect that there will be a few more changes in the next 111 days.
  12. ADVANCES TO SECOND ROUND ELIMINATED Our tiebreaker for Round 1.22 has ended, and Newsday's DEGROMINATION has won, knocking the Post's CY OF THE TIMES from the competition. The New York Post is in a bad position in this year's Tabloid Cover Derby. They only have two of the 22 first-round winners. Newsday has a respectable total of six, and the Daily News is in good shape so far, with fourteen covers still alive. Three of Newsday's surviving six covers feature Jacob deGrom, and those three are the only remaining deGrom covers. Along with DEGROMINATION, which will be up again for voting tomorrow, there's JAKE & RAKE, which is currently struggling in the 2.02 poll, and NATIONAL TREASURE, which we'll see again on Sunday.
  13. Winner of Round 1.18 YO-END-IS! New York Daily News, July 26, 2018. After a triumphant return that lasts only one day, we learn that it will be a while before we see Yoenis Cespedes in action again. Winner of Round 1.21 A WRIGHT TO REMEMBER New York Daily News, September 30, 2018. David Wright says good-bye.
  14. I hope they don't get hung up on the draft pick. It's a second-rounder that they'd lose (or something like that; I forget the details). It shouldn't be a disincentive. Grandal is the guy I'm hoping is the 2019 Mets catcher.
  15. Shorten the distance between the bases to 60 feet and have the batters hit from a tee.
  16. I guess they could paint lines on the field and specify that each fielder has to position himself within his designated zone. Banning the shift is an awful idea, but this is one way to implement it.
  17. The reports we've been getting seem to indicate that the Mets have balked at including Conforto. And some reports have also said that they won't include Rosario. So it seems like it's Nimmo who would be the guy if a deal is to be made.
  18. I imagine he means best overall player who's a catcher.
  19. Winner of Round 1.07 WHERE THERE'S A WIL Newsday, April 16, 2018. A walkoff homer by Wilmer Flores gives the Mets a 3-2 win over the Brewers. Winner of Round 1.19 JAKE & RAKE Newsday, August 14, 2018. The Mets provide some offensive support for Jacob deGrom as they beat the Yankees 8-5 in the Bronx.
  20. There's only one David Wright cover left. (See the full bracket at Tabloid Cover Derby 2018 (Year Four!))
  21. What was the hint that he dropped?
  22. I definitely agree with that.
  23. I agree, but to look at it from another angle, Realmuto plays a position that's quite a bit harder to fill. If I were dealing Nimmo for Realmuto, I would try to get a negotiating window to ensure that JT would be locked down for more than two years.
  24. I like them both too, but went with DEGROMINATION because the Post's cover, as it often is, is a little too busy.
  25. My guess: Mike is going to try to demonstrate that he's the smartest guy there.
