  1. Let's say the Mets and the Marlins could make a one-for-one deal for JT Realmuto. Which of these four players would you prefer to give up? The Mets wouldn't be sending or receiving any additional players. The deal does not include a negotiating window.
  2. Both covers make my eyes hurt, but I certainly agree with the sentiment expressed in the Post here over what the Daily News is saying.
  3. These are the polls that are still open: Round 2.02 JAKE & RAKE vs WHERE THERE'S A WIL Round 2.03 A WRIGHT TO REMEMBER vs YO-END-IS! Round 2.04 DEGROMINATION vs RED WHITE & BLEW Round 2.05 NATIONAL TREASURE vs GSELL THE MAN! Round 2.06 SUCCESS vs YOU NOAH NOTHING!
  4. He is. It seems like the Realmuto/Syndergaard deal is cooling off. Hopefully that's true, and that it stays cold.
  5. We have our first second-round poll closing. There will be no more of BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! What's up next for WHO'S UP FIRST? It will face IT'S RAININ' METS! in a third-round battle this weekend! Be there!
  6. David Wright getting his feet wet in new role with Mets He's been doing some consulting on player evaluations with Brodie in Las Vegas this week.
  7. McCutchen might have been a good pickup for the Mets if they could have gotten him for one year, $12 million. That wouldn't be realistic in early December, but it could have been possible if he was still unsigned at the end of January.
  8. The Wilpons are too cheap to invite the dead players. Sorry Tommie Agee! Tug McGraw! Donn Clendennon! You're not invited!
  9. I read that the White Sox are hot and horny for Bryce Harper.
  10. I think that tends to happen anyway during childbirth.
  11. Well, from what we're hearing, whoever the "someone" is that the Yankees would be giving up would be going to Miami. It would be Realmuto coming to the Mets.
  12. Hopefully if they do complete a trade for Realmuto, it will come with a negotiating window to see if he'll sign an extension. And even if it doesn't, they can still negotiate an extension after the deal is complete. I'd still much prefer them to sign Grandal or Ramos (reports are that the Mets met with Ramos yesterday) but if we do get Realmuto, I want them to be able to keep him for more than two years.

  14. The Tabloid Cover Derby will now go on a brief hiatus. Tomorrow we'll get the first poll closing of Round Two, which is the play-in round where six covers will fill out the open slots in our Sweet Sixteen. Voting for Round Three will begin on Friday. In the meantime, these are the six Round Two polls that are currently open for voting: Round 2.01 WHO'S UP FIRST? vs BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! Round 2.02 JAKE & RAKE vs WHERE THERE'S A WIL Round 2.03 A WRIGHT TO REMEMBER vs YO-END-IS! Round 2.04 DEGROMINATION vs RED WHITE & BLEW Round 2.05 NATIONAL TREASURE vs GSELL THE MAN! Round 2.06 SUCCESS vs YOU NOAH NOTHING!

  16. Mike Puma wrote: There have been discussions, a source confirms, on a potential 3-way trade between the Mets, Yankees and Marlins that would bring J.T. Realmuto to Flushing and could send Noah Syndergaard to the Bronx. Geez, are we going to have to merge the Syndergaard and Realmuto threads? 17. A "big Hall" is a devalued Hall, which is what we have.

  19. The Veterans Committee made sense when it was about 19th Century players, Negro League players, etc. But if that pool is pretty much exhausted, then they should stop considering players. It shouldn't be a mulligan for players who failed the BBWAA voting. Rename it the "Non-Players Committee" and restrict it to managers, executives, umpires, etc.
  20. I agree with you. If you step back from Realmuto, Maldonado shouldn't be Plan B. He seems more like Plan D or Plan E. He's like getting Doug Mientkiewicz* after missing out on Carlos Delgado. And anyone claiming that the Mets are going after the best players is clearly deluded or spinning the story for whatever reason. * I spelled that correctly from memory!
  21. Are they saying that he's going after the "best" players, or that he's being "bold"? It's possible to be bold without going after Harper and Machado, but it's not possible to be going after the best players and overlooking those two.
  22. 41Forever wrote: Will: Actually, the Hall is filled with undeserving players who did next to nothing on the writers ballot. This is one of the main reasons why I have so little interest in the Hall of Fame anymore. The list of who's in and who's not in is such a hot mess that I just can't really care like I used to. Sure, I was happy for Mike Piazza when he got in, and of course I'll be delighted when or if True Met Robinson Cano makes it, but Harold Baines is in, but Pete Rose and Barry Bonds are not? (And for the record, I don't disagree with their exclusion.) It's just a big fat mess, for a variety of reasons.
  23. I found it strange that the Newsday cover doesn't include the significant news that Cespedes' return from the DL would only last one day. The covers from the other two tabloids tell a fuller story. It's why I was one of the few who preferred WHAT THE HEEL!
  24. Winner of Round 1.03 YOU NOAH NOTHING! New York Daily News, March 3, 2018. Noah Syndergaard knows more about his capabilities than his critics do. Tiebreaker winner of Round 1.17 SUCCESS Newsday, July 21, 2018. Yoenis Cespedes makes a successful, albeit short-lived, return from the disabled list.
