  1. I liked Holiday Inn better, even though the story in White Christmas made more sense. I'm not sure, but I think the real-life hotel chain Holiday Inn took its name from the Bing Crosby/Fred Astaire movie.
  2. The last poll from Round Two has closed, and we have now finalized our Sweet Sixteen. We have ten covers from the Daily News, four from Newsday, and two from the New York Post. There are two covers that feature Mickey Callaway, two that feature Wilmer Flores, and two for an Amed Rosario/Asdrubal Cabrera combination. And there's one each for Amed Rosario alone, as well as for Yoenis Cespedes, Michael Conforto, Jacob deGrom, Todd Frazier, Robert Gsellman, Matt Harvey, Brandon Nimmo, Rusty Staub, and David Wright.
  3. Please pull whatever strings you can pull to get invited to the upcoming Wilson press conference. Once there, push your way to the front of the room, throwing as many elbows as you deem necessary, and confront the catcher directly. "Señor Ramos, please let us know how to pronounce your first name."
  4. This was a battle between Yoenis Cespedes, who appeared on the champion covers in 2015 and 2016, and Noah Syndergaard, who was on 2017's winning cover. Cepedes prevails, and the last remaining Syndergaard cover from this year steps aside. So it's success for SUCCESS but nothing doing for YOU NOAH NOTHING!
  5. Winner of Round 1.07 Winner of Round 2.02 WHERE THERE'S A WIL Newsday, April 16, 2018. A walkoff homer by Wilmer Flores gives the Mets a 3-2 win over the Brewers. Winner of Round 1.05 There IS crying in baseball New York Daily News, March 30, 2018. Opening Day brings the sad news that Rusty Staub has died.
  6. Mex17 wrote: Wasn't Ramos once a Mets farmhand who they let get away to the Nats in the Rule V Draft? Or am I thinking of somebody else? You may be thinking of Jesus Flores.
  7. Reportedly two years, $19 million. I approve! And now we can stop talking about JT Realmuto. And hopefully Noah Syndergaard too, at least in the context that we've been talking recently.
  8. The Post's slender hopes of winning this competition are a little less slender this morning, as GSELL THE MAN! will advance to the third round. The elimination of NATIONAL TREASURE means that only one Jacob deGrom cover remains, Newsday's DEGROMINATION.
  9. Winner of Round 1.09 Winner of Round 2.01 WHO'S UP FIRST? New York Daily News, May 10, 2018. An embarrassing moment for Mickey Callaway lands on the front page of the Daily News. Winner of Round 1.10 IT'S RAININ' METS New York Daily News, May 17, 2018. The Mets lose Yoenis Cespedes to the DL and a game to the Blue Jays on a rainy afternoon in Queens.
  10. Didn't he play Coach on Cheers?
  11. Andy Martino on December 14 wrote: Mets catching situation moving closer to resolution (not sayin tonight, but they’re working hard on it.) I keep hearing from different people that they’re very serious about Yasmani Grandal NOT saying they’re out on realmuto. Just continuing to hear a lot about Grandal Despite their interest in Grandal, It’s premature to call him the Mets top choice. The team has evaluated entire catching market but it’s unclear how they rank the choices
  12. I think that would probably annoy those who don't participate.
  13. They provided the blue ribbon.
  14. I agree. I also voted for MIDNIGHT BADNESS which, by the way, is the only Michael Conforto cover that's still standing in this year's TCD. It's not quite as flattering to Michael as this one is, which made it all the way to the finals in 2015:
  15. Winner of Round 1.02 MICKEY'S CLUBHOUSE New York Daily News, February 13, 2018. The Mets are getting a fresh start as spring training begins under their new rookie manager. Winner of Round 1.12 MIDNIGHT BADNESS New York Daily News, June 3, 2018. The Cubs score six runs in the 14th inning as another strong outing from Jacob deGrom is wasted.
  16. Jacob deGrom's Newsday cover degrominated its opponent in this round. The elimination of RED WHITE & BLEW guarantees that, once again, this competition will not be won by a cover featuring Tim Peterson.
  17. I doubt that this Brodie administration is going to fret too much over losing draft picks.
  18. The Mets’ one-on-one talks with the Marlins, who have other suitors for Realmuto, have centered around Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo over Amed Rosario, a source said. One of those players — not multiple — would be the headliner. Among prospects Miami has been keen on: shortstops Andres Gimenez and Ronny Mauricio and third baseman Mark Vientos. Winter meetings are done, but Mets still trying to deal for J.T. Realmuto
  19. Hopefully Jay-or-Yoris isn't as much of a smartass as Chevy Chase is. But be sure to bring your sister to the press conference!
  20. It's official: Mets e-mail announcement wrote: The Mets today announced that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Jeurys Familia to a three-year deal. "We are excited to bring Jeurys back to Flushing," Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said. "Jeurys is a familiar face and an accomplished, elite reliever with experience that will fit well in our clubhouse."
  21. Just making sure this doesn't get buried.
  22. We were also talking about Wilson Ramos last April.
  23. This is our original conversation about Realmuto, from earlier this year. Funny, nobody suggested trading Syndergaard for him.
  24. We really need to hear from the man himself.
  25. They mentioned him on Mets Hot Stove last night and everyone started chuckling.
