  1. It was a battle between a rain delay and a lineup snafu, and the rain delay won! IT'S RAININ' METS advances to the fourth round and becomes a member of the Elite Eight.
  2. We must have seen some goodness in MIDNIGHT BADNESS, because it shut down MICKEY'S CLUBHOUSE in Round 3.02.
  3. Sources: Dodgers trade Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig in blockbuster deal with Reds
  4. ESPN saying it's likely narrowed down to three teams: Are Phillies, Yankees or White Sox best fit for Manny Machado? Go White Sox!
  5. Pretty soon we'll be hearing that Brodie is offering Syndergaard and Rosario. And maybe Conforto and Nimmo too.
  6. The poll posted this morning was the final poll of the third round, and we'll now be taking a brief hiatus while we wait for the remaining third round polls to close, and we take an opportunity to allow all of our Tabloid Cover Derby workers to spend the holiday week with their families. We'll resume with the opening of the fourth round, which will determine our Final Four, in early January.
  7. We now have our first winner from the Third Round, and it's SWEEP SNAKES from the New York Post. The voting wasn't quite a sweep, as TODD COUPLE got a little bit more than a couple of votes. The Post had only two of the 22 covers that emerged from the first round, but it's been slowly overcoming the initial steep odds, and it becomes the first of our publications this year to place a cover in the Elite Eight. The other Post cover, GSELL THE MAN! is also still alive and well, and is the potential opponent for SWEEP SNAKES in Round Four.
  8. It doesn't seem to be playing out quite that way, aside from the fact that in a single-elimination tournament like this one, the final battle can't be between three entries!
  9. Winner of Round 1.16 GOOD WIL! New York Daily News, July 10, 2018. More walk-off heroics for Wilmer Flores, as the Mets defeat the Phillies. Tiebreaker winner of Round 1.17 Winner of Round 2.06 SUCCESS Newsday, July 21, 2018. Yoenis Cespedes makes a successful, albeit short-lived, return from the disabled list.
  10. That wouldn't totally surprise me. Not because I think it's likely, but because I have no idea what the Mets are doing anymore.
  11. Winner of Round 1.04 MATT OUTTA HELL New York Daily News, March 6, 2018. His worst days are behind him, and there are only good things ahead for Matt Harvey. Winner of Round 1.08 Winner of Round 2.05 GSELL THE MAN! New York Post, April 21, 2018. Robert Gsellman is the hero of the 12th inning in Atlanta.
  12. I don't like how close Clemens and Bonds are getting.
  13. I suspect that years from now we might find ourselves conflating him with Zach Lutz.
  14. They're both nice, happy, appealing covers, but I went with SMILE HIGH because the action photo of Nimmo looks better than the head shot of deGrom.
  15. Tiebreaker winner of Round 1.22 Winner of Round 2.04 DEGROMINATION Newsday, November 15, 2018. Jacob deGrom wins the Cy Young award in a landslide. Winner of Round 1.14 SMILE HIGH Newsday, June 19, 2018. Brandon Nimmo hits two home runs as the Mets beat the Rockies in Denver.
  16. Do they have supermodels in Southern California?
  17. And Cano and Cespedes and Conforto.
  18. Is it time to stop talking about A.J. Pollock? Mets appear to be out on A.J. Pollock in telling Wilson Ramos answer “We are going to be using our resources efficiently, but we also have to look at where our priorities are,” Van Wagenen said. “Before this signing, a right-handed, middle-of-the order bat was real important to give us balance. Now that we have it, that may not be the No. 1 priority.”
  19. Yeah, me too. It's more likely that what he's saying is "Jerries". But I'm serious that we need to get this in front of Gary Cohen STAT! (That's medical talk for "fast".) How can we do that?
  20. Winner of Round 1.13 WHAT THE BLANK! New York Daily News, June 7, 2018. The lowly Orioles complete a two-game sweep of the Mets with a 1-0 victory. Winner of Round 1.21 Winner of Round 2.03 A WRIGHT TO REMEMBER New York Daily News, September 30, 2018. David Wright says good-bye.
  21. Wow!!! Great find! I had my money on Yoris. Who would have thought that it was Jerry, of all things!?! Can someone who knows how to use Twitter make sure that this gets in front of Gary Cohen?
  22. I vote for the image that's most visually appealing, even if it's a bad news cover. But it is very much "to each his own". I deliberately didn't create any criteria beyond "the cover you like best" because if I put any rules on how you should vote, it would inevitably cause confusion.
