    You had me curious, so I counted! Shelby has held up ten winning covers, and Marissa has had eight. And Bob has had the winning cover both times he filled in!

    They're assigned their covers before the voting begins. (I don't know if you've been seeing the versions that have been appearing on the CPF Facebook page at the start of each poll. See below.) I think Nate Silver has done an analysis regarding the relationship between our spokesmodels and the winning covers. I'll have to see if I can find a link. SMILE HIGH scores a 15 to 2 victory over SWEEP SNAKES, which was the last remaining cover from the New York Post. This will be the first time since 2015 that the Post hasn't been represented in the finals, and the first-ever appearance in the final round for Newsday. SMILE HIGH will go on to face MIDNIGHT BADNESS of the Daily News in the final round, which will begin tomorrow. Will Newsday make its first trip to Stockholm? Or will the Daily News win the Tabloid Cover Derby for the fourth time in four years? The excitement is electric. The tension is palpable.

    I received an e-mail today telling me that Tom Hausman, the Mets first-ever free-agent signing, died on Wednesday. Newsday's SMILE HIGH has defeated IT'S RAININ' METS and completes our Final Four. As in each of the previous two years, the Final Four consists of two covers from the Daily News and one each from the Post and Newsday. (In 2015, we had three Daily News covers and one from the Post.)

    She's rarely around the office anymore because she's so busy with her TV show. (Her title is now Receptionist Emeritus.) I'd like to think she's okay with Marissa and Shelby. I asked about it and Stockholm replied, "Maja säger att hon föraktar de smutsiga horarna." So it sounds like all is good!
