  1. Major League Baseball has sent out a fan survey, asking fifteen questions. Let's make each of these a poll, so they can be voted on and discussed individually. Continue to implement the three-batter minimum for pitchers as a way to limit delays due to mid-inning pitching changes
  2. Major League Baseball has sent out a fan survey, asking fifteen questions. Let's make each of these a poll, so they can be voted on and discussed individually. Games are played in front of crowds of reduced size or empty ballparks
  3. Major League Baseball has sent out a fan survey, asking fifteen questions. Let's make each of these a poll, so they can be voted on and discussed individually. In order to reduce wear and tear on players during a condensed schedule, each extra inning will begin with a runner on base in order to improve the chance of a quick finish
  4. David Letterman is from Indianapolis and he grew up rooting for the Reds. But I have a friend from Indiana who's a Cubs fan. And that's all I know about it.
  5. Apparently now there's yet another option being considered. They may now play games in three different states: Florida, Arizona and Texas. I don't know if that means there would be three leagues or how the teams would be distributed. I suppose it might make sense for the teams play in the central time zone to be situated in Texas. But this seems like a weird alternative to the cactus league / grapefruit league suggestion we had previously seen
  6. He was 40 when he graduated.
  7. I think it's kind of like the Orioles being referred to as the Birds, or the Marlins as the Fish, which still happens.
  8. Maybe if baseball never returns we could do a 1970 Tabloid Cover Derby.
  9. Forbes has estimated Mas' net worth at just over $1 billion. Chump change! (Only in this particular context, of course.) I want someone with much deeper pockets than that. I read recently how Jeff Bezos' wife got $38 billion in her divorce settlement. My first thought was that if I came into that much, I'd make the Wilpons an offer they can't refuse and put aside enough money to keep the team well-funded for decades. And then I'd figure out what kinds of philanthropic things to do with the rest of the money. (Maybe we can reach out to Mrs. Bezos? Who wants to take the lead on this?)

  12. I'm going to take a completely wild guess and say Joel Youngblood
  13. Yet Dr. Fauci says that sports can start sooner rather than later, but without an audience.
  14. But they're probably waiting even longer for a game that eventually resumes.

  16. It's striking how many of these "Baseball Passings" call to mind images of baseball cards from 1971, 1972, and 1973. (My peak years.) I look at this image and it makes me smell bubble gum: https://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/8665/8665-495775Fr.jpg> You knew he was a good player because he got an IN ACTION card! https://www.tradingcarddb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/72/72-46Fr.jpg>

  18. If I were to move one team it would be the Reds or the Indians so that they could play in their home time zone
  19. I guess my first favorite was Tom Seaver. It was 1971 on Long Island and everyone (with few exceptions) were Mets fans, and Tom Seaver was the most coveted baseball card. But I think the first guy I chose as a favorite, rather than picking it up from my peers, was Rusty Staub. I had to think for a while to come up with the first player I disliked, but it was probably Pete Rose, after his 1973 NLCS fight with Bud Harrelson.
  20. I think they had it just right, up until the Koosman decision. Wright should be next, and nobody else for a while.
  21. I like how things that are supposed to work are called "plans" and those that won't are called "schemes". I think the idea of restarting baseball is predicated on the assumption that by mid-May or early June the spread of the disease will be in serious decline and it will be safer for small groups to assemble. And that testing will be more readily available, including antibody testing. But who knows? All I know is that I hope they find a scheme that works.
  22. Well, there wouldn't be much traveling, since each division will cover a relatively small geographic area. But yeah, you would have to have a series of split doubleheaders. There's a disadvantage to the team that's playing two games that day when their opponents are only playing one, but you'd have to make it so that happens to each team an equal number of times.
  23. They could get more games in by playing the regular season through November and the post-season in December. (Someone somewhere floated that idea.) One of many problems with that is that if the season ends in late December, the teams that go deep into the playoffs would only have a little over a month off before it's time to report to spring training again. But maybe regular season through October and postseason in November.
  24. I do too. The all-DH sucks, and it would probably be a gateway to it happening permanently, but that seems to be inevitable anyway. I assume that the spring training facilities would have the capacity to house the players' families too, which is another bonus.
