  1. The fourteen World Series may not have made Yogi a better catcher than Bench, but you could certainly argue that he had a better career* in that he got to go to the World Series fourteen times. (*In the sense of how satisfied was he with his career when he retired.)
  2. Is that necessarily true? Maybe Baty wins the third base job and Escobar becomes a DH?
  3. If you have a Smart TV that allows you to install the MLB app, you can watch on your TV. I have a Samsung that supports the MLB app. My girlfriend has an LG, and their "app store" doesn't include MLB or a few other things. To get around it, I bought a Fire Stick from Amazon and plugged it into one of the HDMI ports on the back of the television. We generally watch her TV using the Fire Stick port because it supports more apps and has a friendlier user interface as well.
  4. https://twitter.com/nut_history/status/1637970754158440452 And Bob Murphy!
  5. I wonder... do the Reds have any big contracts they're eager to shed? Taking on one or two of those may sweeten the pot for Cincinnati.
  6. ...because everyone else seems to be. Edwin's younger brother. 26 years old. Debuted with the Reds last year. 1.84 ERA. 83 strikeouts and 33 walks in 63.2 innings. 7-3 with 10 saves. He's not yet eligible for arbitration and has five more years of team control. Who would it take? Parada? Vientos? Would the Mets make such a deal? Should they? And most importantly, would they play the trumpet music for Alexis?
  7. I was responding to this: =MFS62 post_id=120177 time=1679342216 user_id=60]Yogi was a 1962 Met
  8. Yogi was still a Yankee in 1962. His first association with the Mets came in 1965 when he was briefly a player but also became part of the coaching staff.
  9. https://twitter.com/baseballinpix/status/1637604869195411457 I would guess that it was the Mayor's Trophy Game in 1964. It was the only year (in the 1960s anyway) that Berra was with the Yankees and the Mets were at Shea.
  10. I didn't see anything in that article that said how old Bubby is.
  11. I've found that many people in Europe speak two languages... The language of whatever country they live in... and English. (More common in younger people, who've been learning English in school.)
  12. "...split up teammates based on where their grandmothers got laid." That's fucking great. I wish I wrote that before Keith did. That's a great line. Even if youse don't even agree with it. I agree. It's a great line.
  13. I think he'll be better than Carlos Carrasco was in 2021.
  14. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2022/20220607_NYP_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2022/20220702_NYP_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2022/20220704_NSD_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2022/20220930_NYDN_02.jpg> He definitely had some moments in 2022. Signed through this year with a team option for 2024. I think he'll get most of the third-base time through May at least, but then as one or two of the Mets' infield prospects mature, he may get bumped to more DH time. If Baty and/or Vientos and/or Maurico really come on strong, maybe Escobar gets traded during the summer for a starting pitcher or a slugging outfielder.
  15. I'm hoping (and expecting) that sooner or later I'll learn how to remember what his name is.
  16. Team Italy should be wearing the nation's colors of red white and green. Or maybe they were afraid they'd look too much like pizza boxes?
  17. It was great that he was able to return for the playoffs. He definitely provides a spark to the team, as does Nimmo. I hope he can keep doing it. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2022/20221008_NSD_02a.jpg>
  18. Unless there's an injury to Nido or the other guy whose name I haven't memorized yet, I don't think we'll see Alvarez in Queens before June or July. The Mets seem serious about getting him more minor-league experience behind the plate. He'll go north with the Mets in 2024 as the starting catcher.
  19. I think there's a good chance of that.
  20. Let's celebrate it by wearing something that looks like a New York Giants cap!
  21. I'm not sure what to think here. I would like to see Baty get over 400 plate appearances and be a Rookie-of-the-Year candidate, but I'm not sure how that happens without Escobar failing, and I don't want that to happen. Throw in Mauricio and Vientos, and I have no idea what to expect.
  22. Ooooh... I don't know. Something tells me I should be spending more time worrying about Max Scherzer than I am. I'm feeling a bit pessimistic. I'll say 10-9, 3.75 ERA.
  23. Do the Mets have any players who will be going to Asia to participate? Senga is skipping the WBC... I'm not sure if there are any others.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Predict his debut NOW!!!! May 12.
  25. I've read that the ban on the shift will hurt McNeil, but I'm not convinced. I think he's a guy who can him 'em where they ain't. But this is one of the things I'm most curious about regarding the upcoming season.
