  2. We'd all ask him about hot dogs, I imagine. No, it's not Ed Glynn. I guess we could play Twenty Questions or something.
  3. I'm still trying to get our first actual Mets player to visit us here. An invitation I extended a few months ago appears to be reviving itself. (No, it's not Joe Christopher.) I don't remember if I mentioned this one here, but I think I did. I'll reveal more if this thing begins to look as if it will happen.
  4. I think that kind of a series would be interesting. It would have to be at a neutral site. Maybe even a neutral continent. They could play in Europe, or maybe Hawaii, so that both sides would be equally inconvenienced. If it was played in Europe, most of the locals would be indifferent, but the stands would fill up with American and Japanese fans. (I'd consider going to Europe to see the World Champion Mets play another round. I would have loved to have done that in November 1986.) And it could only help raise the game's profile in Europe if the series was played there.
  5. That's a cheery thought.

  13. I saw this movie last week. It's a documentary about Timothy Treadwell, a man who lived with wild grizzly bears in Alaska, and was ultimately killed by one. Treadwell, I think I can safely say, was nuts. Some see this movie as a celebration of a man who lived his dream and connected with nature, but I see it as an in-depth look into the mind of a disturbed person. I thought it was pretty interesting. http://www.grizzlyman.com
  14. It's already starting with a bad title. After Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, and Rocky V, how can he not call the next one Rocky VI?

  16. All you have to do is list your personal Top 30. Everyone else will do theirs, and thus the consensus rankings are formed.
  17. Dave Righetti. But he spent a good chunk of time as a starter, too.
  18. I can't imagine a Bad Guys Won movie being anything other than awful. Has a movie ever been made about Casey Stengel? A well-done bio-pic of Casey would be fun, although the Mets would only appear near the end.
  19. I voted the middle category. All I know is that I'll be rooting for the American League team in the World Series, whatever the matchup. I like both the Angels and White Sox more than I do the Astros or Cardinals.
  20. Nice going. I had no idea.
  21. Another interesting tidbit: There's a 75% chance that at the end of this postseason, we'll see our sixth different World Champion in the last six years. (Unless the Angels prevail.) I'm pretty sure that's unprecedented. And if it happens, we can all root for the Mets to make it seven next year.
  22. "Never got a dinner."
  23. In honor of the Chicago White Sox and the Houston Astros, both trying to end years of futility. I'm a little surprised at how far down the first list the Cardinals are. And if not for 1986, look how far down the Mets would be. They'd only be ahead of four teams. 24. A hundred years from now they'll be talking about the Curse of the Splintered Bat.

Valadius wrote: 10-point maximum 6 to 10-point minimum (we can debate this) maximum of 6 points per player minimum of two players receiving votes (after all, the whole point was to avoid screwing the also-rans) That's pretty much the 2(a), except for the two-player minimum. The problem with that last wrinkle is that you'd also have to have a minimum point value for that second player, otherwise it's easily subverted. You could just do: Martinez 6 DeFelice 0.01
