  1. $61.47. I'd have more but I had to spend 58 cents at the post office this morning to mail my taxes to the IRS.
  2. I think the idea is getting tarnished already!
  3. Santana's on the front page of today's Daily News.
  4. I don't know if you said it or not, but you did type it! I don't think Wagner hurts the team. I just don't think he helps it as much as the mythical guy we could theoretically trade him for.
  5. Do you need a database guy?
  6. We need a few years of the Mets winning pennants and the Yankees in third or fourth place. I don't really care much about tabloid attention anymore, but it would still be nice to see the Yankees relegated to being the second team in town. They were solidly in that spot when I started rooting for the Mets in 1971. It seemed to me to be the natural order, which was then restored in the mid-80's. I wish those last four championships hadn't happened. (Especially the fourth one!) The Mets lost this town by sucking so badly in the early 90's. Even though they were starting to emerge from it by 1996, it was too little too late to avoid getting rolled over by the Jeter Renaissance.
  7. You could even run an "All-Star" fantasy camp.

  9. Yes! I'd rather get myself a few hundred dollars than have to endure a "historic" day at Yankee Stadium.
  10. Well, so much for that, then. It's still possible to trade him, but Wagner would have to get some sweetener which would probably kill the deal. (I don't think he's that desirable.)
  11. It has been over the top with the Daily News and the Yankees. (Those "our greatest Yankees" photo inserts go directly into my recycling bin.) But recently there's been a "Take Your Kids to Shea For Free" promotion on the front page of the News. I thought I had picked up a copy of the wrong newspaper.
  12. Or that, yes. I guess my main point is that I'd be willing to deal Wagner before his contract expires (he doesn't have a no-trade, does he?) and let Heilman ascend to the closer role.
  13. I was thinking much the same thing yesterday while Heilman was pitching. I think he could succeed Wagner RIGHT NOW! (Wagner's contract runs through 2009, doesn't it? Maybe they can trade him for a starting pitcher or an outfielder after the 2008 season.)
  14. This may impact his Cooperstown cap! That's good news, though. I'm glad for him.
  15. seawolf17 wrote: Fucking hell, man! If you're going to acknowledge that the reconstruction happened, then that's a new stadium! Sickening. Usually the word I hear is "refurbished." Which, I assume, means knocked down and rebuilt. I mean, just look at photos of the original stadium and the current one. It's clearly a different building. On the UMDB, when the time comes, I'll be referring to the current stadium as "Yankee Stadium II" and the new one as "Yankee Stadium III." It will be a small voice of sanity amid all the misrepresentation. I wonder if I'll get any (or many) complaints about it?
  16. Nobody seems to understand that simple fact! It's become more and more frustrating as the years have gone by. What really kills me is that the Yankees have 15 years to work on the next falsehood so that they can celebrate the Stadium's 100th Anniversary in 2023. And THEN, twenty years after that, they'll complain that they're playing in a 120-year-old ballpark and need something new.
  17. Years from now, one of the factors that will determine how the Santana trade turned out (for both clubs) will be the difference between the careers of Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez. In other words, did the Mets trade the wrong guy? Did the Twins get the wrong guy? My take on the trade (based on my outsider perspective) is that both teams preferred that Gomez be included because the Mets preferred Martinez' potential and the Twins preferred Gomez' readiness.
  18. I can ask my mom, but she's probably not very objective.
  19. I remember being very upset when Mike Torrez was given the 1984 Opening Day start. It's funny to look back and see how much I cared about such stuff when I was 21. (I thought I was grown up back then, but from my current perspective I can see I was just a kid. I wonder, when I'm in my 60's will I look back on my 40-something self the same way?)
  20. It's not that surprising that he'd lead among active Mets. He may be young, but he does have seniority over everyone but Jose Reyes.
  21. Judging by the position of David's bat, I'd say the ball is still in its approach.
  22. I think John Milner had a bunch of them. Someday the UMDB will have that information, but not yet. (It's in the works, though.)
  23. Triple Dee wrote: My apologies for starting the thread for yesterday's game. I wasn't sure if I was coming back to CPF anytime soon, but now realize I have more time to enter my votes. No need to apologize. The practice around here is the first one who has a chance to start the thread once the game ends should start the thread, so the voting can commence.
  24. And for an out-of-market Mets fan like myself, it's the best thing since cheese.
  25. Sosa's strikeout was big. I gave him a half point.
