SNY seemed to have went to a commercial, then cut back in just as Reyes was singling. I was awfully confused by that. When they cut to the commercial, I thought that Vargas had grounded out. When they come back, he's advancing to second and Reyes is getting to first. No "while you were away" explanation from the announcers. I suspect they may have been broadcasting the whole time, not knowing they were off the air. I rewound back to Vargas' ground out to see if I had missed anything. It was eerie; like I had skipped to another dimension somehow while those commercials were playing. I'm starting to think that our season has come; when the Mets score four runs AFTER the third out, it's the old time magic again.
  2. Good call by the ump. It looked like he SHOULD have been safe, but he was clearly out. (The runner beat the ball, but Schneider blocked nicely.)
  3. Is Joe Torre out of uniform? He seems to be wearing a golf shirt instead of a regulation Dodgers jersey.
  4. I just wonder if he's been hiding some aches and/or pains, like Schoeneweis did last year. Or maybe it was just a lack of focus/concentration, and he's on the verge of snapping out of it. That would be better than the ache and/or the pain.
  5. I think it's a positive sign; something to build on. If he can go two or three more weeks with more good outings than bad, maybe get that ERA down into the low 4's, then I'll be more comfortable that the badness is behind him. For now though, I'm reserving judgment.
  6. I'm neutral when it comes to ham, but you'll always find me fighting on the side of bacon.
  7. It would be nice if all the living former Mets managers got to pull a number. (Bobby Valentine probably wouldn't want to leave his team and fly back from Japan for this, though.) Yogi Berra, Joe Frazier, Joe Torre, Frank Howard, Davey Johnson, Bud Harrelson, Mike Cubbage, Jeff Torborg, Dallas Green, Bobby Valentine, Art Howe, and Willie Randolph.
  8. Playing for the St. Lucie Mets.
  9. They swept a four-game series against the Pirates in June of 1986. I'm sure there are many others, but I was just looking for one in order to disprove the "never." Perhaps they mean "against the Dodgers."
  10. Wow, Edgy digs up a 365-day-old thread!
  11. If all these guys were suddenly, miraculously, healthy, who would go from the current roster in order to make room? Some quick guesses on my part: Marlon Anderson Nick Evans Moises Alou Raul Casanova Ambiorix Burgos Nobody. He'd stay in the minors. Ryan Church Still on the active roster. Orlando Hernandez Vargas? Pedro Martinez Mike Pelfrey Angel Pagan Oooh, tough one. Would Tatis go back to New Orleans to make room for Pagan? I'm not so sure. Jason "The Other" Vargas He'd stay in the minors. Matt Wise Muniz, I suppose. But if Muniz is pitching well, I'd let him keep his spot, much like Joe Smith has.
  12. Everybody's in favor of low-cost energy, though.
  13. Those clips were great. Why couldn't Ron have been watching Ed Sullivan when he was nine? When I was a little kid, I'd watch things like Merv Griffin and David Frost, because that's what my parents were watching. Ron Darling could very well have had the same experience with the Ed Sullivan Show.
  14. Walk off wins are always terrific. Walk off wins where you come from behind in extra innings are especially sweet. I went to bed last night at 10:30, and set my TiVo to record two hours. So I had one inning to watch this morning, and it was a good one. My daughter, 6, was watching with me. She has the makings of a really good fan, but not everything's clicked yet. Watching this game with me, and then seeing that on-field celebration, I think, caused another piece to fall into place. I really nice win, for so many reasons. And I do hope that Old Mole's KTE prediction is more accurate than mine was. If they keep this momentum going, and win three or four from the Dodgers, this team just might take off.
  15. Jeremy also returned the favor and left a memory of Don Engbers. They both posted e-mail addresses. I wonder if a couple of old farmhands would be interested in visiting with us?
  16. Gwreck wrote: ="Benjamin Grimm"]My prediction: W, L, L, W. You're gonna predict a loss on CPF Meeting day? That's cold. Mike Pelfrey doesn't win. (And maybe I'm providing him with incentive to prove me wrong!)
  17. A former Mets farmhand has shared a nice memory of Sheriff Robinson I didn't realize it until I just looked it up, but Sheriff is dead at the present time. I must missed news of his death six years ago.
  18. My prediction: W, L, L, W.

  23. Not quite the same photo. The two photographers must have been standing next to each other, or else it was the same guy a few seconds apart. HoJo is still in the Daily News photo; you can see his ear just behind Willie's head.
