  1. Wright's up with one out and a runner on third. It would be nice to see him get this run home. He hasn't been doing that much lately.
  2. And now a single.
  3. Perez has already given up a leadoff walk. No cause for alarm, but hanging up a zero here is much better than a 1 or a 2.
  4. In Milwaukee, Dave Bush's approval ratings are lower than George's right now.
  5. Holy crap, I check in for the first time just a few minutes after the game starts, and I see the Mets put up a 5 in the top of the first! (And still going...)
  6. Well, I'm not looking for collapse proof, just collapse resistant. If they could be at 7 with 17 to go again I'd be pretty happy, especially with all head-to-heads against Philadelphia over and done with.

  8. So Murphy should be okay for Arizona then. I'd like to see Nick Evans there too, playing some outfield.
  9. He could probably play in Puerto Rico, couldn't he?

  11. Frayed Knot wrote: Which means 7-4 (2-2 from here on in) is now a bare minimum and even then only if it's lose today then take 2 of 3 from Philly. A 7-4 record that includes losing 2 of 3 vs Phil would not be an ideal situation. If the Mets bring the lead up to three during today's action, I could live with taking only one of three from the Phillies. It would leave us four games closer to the end of the season with the same lead the Mets have today. But of course I do want more than that. A win today puts the Mets only one game behind the Brewers, which could be helpful if necessary. And taking two or even three from the Phillies would go a long way to building that collapse-resistant lead that we'd all like to see.
  12. Voting for the entire series against the Marlins in Miami, plus the Labor Day game in Milwaukee, will close on Thursday morning. The win over the Brewers looks like it's still lacking a few votes. If you're planning to vote and haven't yet, please try to get your numbers in today. 14. I really can't get worked up about this. Advertising is everywhere and we can do little but accept it and adapt to it. A picture of a cartoon character on a web site calendar isn't a big deal to me.
  15. I'm not thrilled with Ayala either. Of the potential closers, right now I'd prefer Stokes.

  17. If Al Reyes should happen to get into the game and earn some Schaefer, please vote for him as AlReyes. Thank you!

  19. Nice to see that Beltran is able to play.
  20. We all know that there have been games when the Mets have inexplicably been stymied by a rookie pitcher that we've ever heard of. (Some will say that that's a particular Mets jinx, but I'm not prepared to jump to that conclusion.) How nice would it be if today was one of those days for the Brewers? Tonight Jon Niese becomes the 845th Met. (If all the September call-ups see action, I think the count will advance to 848. That is, if I'm not overlooking anyone.) Let's hope he puts up 5 or 6 Schaefer points tonight.
  21. That should have read "tragic number." It's the Red Sox magic number for eliminating the Yankees for the Wild Card. From Boston's perspective it's a "magic" number but for the Yankees it's a "tragic" number.
  22. ="Frayed Knot"]Mike Francesa pronounces them "Done" Now this worries me. Too many times when Francesa makes pronouncements, they're wrong.
  23. Maybe they meant an 0 and 2 count?
