  1. Phils score two in the first, the Nationals tie it up in the bottom of the inning. Phillies add a run in the third, leading 3-2 with Washington batting in the bottom of the third. Yankees have jumped out to a 5-1 lead against the Rays.
  2. Perez 3.5 Church 3.5 Evans 1 Schneider 1 Beltran 1
  3. I guess he did.
  4. Let's see if David can cash in THIS "rib eye steak."
  5. Let me see if I can remember how to use the Merge tool that I created...
  6. Yahoo GameChannel is telling me that the 8th inning is over after Sanchez got the first two outs. That's an effective way to 'shorten the game.' ] - R. Cancel catching - D. Sanchez relieved J. Smith - C. Hart grounded out to shortstop - M. Gamel hit for B. Hall - M. Gamel struck out looking - End of Inning (0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Errors)
  7. Red Sox and Orioles going into extra innings (tied at 4) at Fenway. Marlins have beaten the Braves, but Florida no longer worries me. (At least, not at the moment.) The real important game is Phillies at DC tonight at 7:10.
  8. Nice job by Mr. Evans! So far I know that Evans, Church, and Perez will get Schaefer from me. Maybe a couple of others as well.
  9. Yes we can! Two, in fact!
  10. And 117 pitches.
  11. Kapler walks, but Joe Smith comes in to get the final out. 6-2 Mets after 7. 2 runs, 5 hits, 5 walks, 5 strikeouts for Perez over 6.2 innings.
  12. Perez still in there, pitching to Kapler with two out.
  13. Make that a four-run lead as Hardy homers.
  14. I'd want more than a five-run lead before I mess around with new guys.
  15. ]Last Play: D. Wright struck out swinging, D. Murphy caught stealing, catcher to second I'd really like to see D. Wright snap out of whatever funk he's in. So far it hasn't really hurt the club, but we can't count on that continuing.
  16. HahnSolo wrote: Yes. After a baserunner, go get him. I'll buy that.
  17. You're Jerry Manuel: Do you send Oliver Perez to the mound for the 7th inning? As much as I want to get 7 from Perez, I'm leaning towards no.
  18. 85 pitches through 5 for Perez. Looks like he'll be able to go 6, but I'm still hoping for 7. With a day off tomorrow 6 might be enough, but I'd prefer to use the bullpen as little as possible.
  19. So what did we think of Niese? Obviously the box score line doesn't look too good. But I saw some flashes of talent and moxie. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him, although perhaps not as a starting pitcher again this season. My daughter, though, hates Niese's nose. It was all she could talk about every time he was on screen. It didn't look like either of his parents had that nose, so I guess he was the victim of a bad genetic cocktail.
  20. Perez does seem to be doing a good job of pitching out of whatever trouble he's been getting into. (At least so far.) A six-run cushion does make that a bit easier.
  21. Oliver's thrown 58 pitches through 3 innings. Hopefully he'll have a few easy innings so that he'll be able to go 7 or 8.
  22. Farmer Ted wrote: Is Corey Hart the long lost son of Randall Tex Cobb? I think he's the long-lost son of Bristol Palin.
  23. The Crew goes down in order in the second.
  24. Castillo's contract was a mistake. (The length of it, anyway. It would have been okay if it was a one- or two-year deal, I think.) Compounding that mistake by not looking at alternatives would be wrong. (And not at all out of character for the Mets.) It's refreshing to see them looking at alternatives even though Castillo has three years to go. If Murphy steals his job, Castillo can either be an expensive backup, or he can be traded. I don't know that the Mets would get much for him. The more cash they include the more they'd get back in talent, but trading him is a possibility.
  25. And he doesn't do it this time either. Pop up to first. Sheesh.
