  1. The thought of a rotation of Santana, Sabathia, Maine, and Pelfrey makes me drool. Throw Jessica Alba in there and I'll be drooling like a labrador retriever.
  2. I think they caught him sneaking home with some office supplies. Those "jumbo clips" are really good for sealing shut bags of potato chips.
  3. Either this rumor is false, or the one about them sticking to the $143 million payroll is. I can't see how the Mets could sign CC and keep to $143 million. Unless CC is the only salary they take on, and the Mets find low-salaried players to fill out the bullpen.
  4. I watched this off-season's first installment of SNY's Mets Hot Stove Report yesterday. Kevin Burkhardt was talking to Jon Heyman and Newsday's David Lennon. (Played convincingly by Neil Patrick Harris.) They both think the Mets have a decent shot of ending up with Francisco Rodriguez. (Known to some as "K-Rod.") Their thinking is that not too many teams are looking for a closer, and of those that are, the Mets are the only "big spending" team. Supply and demand may make Rodriguez more affordable as the fall progresses. Especially now that the Angels have said that they've moved on. (Although I think the Yankees said that about the other Rod last winter, didn't they?)
  5. The Daily News is reporting today that the Mets are going to go for it with CC Sabathia, and that they'll be going toe-to-toe with the Yankees. Yankees say, "Bring it on!" CC says, "Ka-ching!"
  6. Daily News reporting today that Lee Mazzilli has been dropped from the SNY studio show. Looks like Bobby Ojeda is most likely to replace him. No word yet on whether Darryl will return, or even if he wants to.
  7. Sounds like a plan. Thanks!
  8. They explained that it's because of the limited capacity of Citi Field. Hmmm. Maybe they should have added another 10,000 seats to the stadium. Have you ever enrolled in the Kids Club before? My daughter is asking and I'll probably get it for her. (She's 7.) I'm just wondering how happy/disappointed she'll be.
  9. David gets the 2008 Silver Slugger for NL 3B. Second year in a row. Beltran is off the list; he had won each of the last two years.
  10. Both movies feature currently-in-the-closet male leads.
  11. I was thinking a 69er: Ron Swoboda.
  12. Didn't like Empire, didn't see Robocop, therefore won't vote in this one.
  13. Prediction: The Mets don't open the 2009 season with Eddie Kunz as their closer. (I'm really going out on a limb on that one.)
  14. David's also been quoted in the last few days about the Mets' closer situation. Says that getting Fuentes won't be a disappointment (as compared to getting Rodriguez) but that he admires Rodriguez. And he'll be more than happy to help with recruitment. He'll make phone calls and give tours of New York City.
  15. Tampering!
  16. Teams are free to negotiate with other teams' free agents after midnight tonight, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
  17. And Vida said he'd do it only if Finley changed his name to "True O. Finley."
  18. Dale Sveum got a vote? For managing 13 games?
  19. Ken? What kind of a Japanese name is Ken?
  20. I don't know why that would be the case. It's not like the President of the United States makes the choice. And by 2016, Obama will either be out of office or quickly approaching lame duckhood.
  21. Speaking only for myself, I just find it a little bit sad. No pain though.
  22. I don't think the Mets did such a bad job with the last year of Shea. Yeah, there were too many Lincoln-Mercury dealers pulling down the numbers. But I think the closing ceremony was nicely done. Very nicely done.
  23. Wide walkways and legroom are nothing to sneeze at. I'd feel differently if I still lived in New York. But as rarely as I get to Shea Queens to see the Mets play anymore, I don't think Citi Field will ever feel like home to me.
