  1. There seems to be a lot of hate around. A crazy amount of hate. And it's not just confined to baseball, of course. I wish it would go away. I hate it!
  2. I'm willing to do it if people are interested. I may even do it if they're not.
  3. I've picked up a little bit about Jersey Shore through osmosis. It is, I think, a show about a bunch of Italian-American stereotypes who behave badly at the beach. There's a girl on the show called Snooky, or Snoopy, or something like that. And now you know what I know.
  4. Anyway, Adam Rubin won't be writing about the Mets in 2015; he'll be too busy being President of the United States.
  5. metirish wrote: I list the innings pitched because this seems to have become a biggish deal in the media regarding the Mets , some are saying that this team needs to get 800+ innings for the starting rotation, actually I think that's from the top four. Getting 800 innings from four guys is pretty much a relic from the past. The Mets have only had that happen twice in the last 20 seasons. (In 2000, Hampton, Leiter, Rusch, and Reed combined for 800.1. Prior to that, it hadn't happened since 1990, with Viola, Gooden, Cone, and Fernandez totaling 873.1. It would be great if they could do it this year, but I don't think it's a prerequisite for winning.
  6. I can't reconcile Pelfrey, Maine, and Perez with 90-plus wins. If those three pitch the way I expect them to pitch, I don't think the Mets will have enough offense to overcome the poor rotation. If they surprise me (and I hope they do) then maybe a playoff run will be in store. But at this point I don't see it happening.
  7. Matt Cerone says that Adam Rubin says that Green and Parnell are going to Buffalo, and so is Chris Coste, if he clears waivers.
  8. 1. Where they will finish in the NL East THIRD PLACE 2. What the final record will be 83-79 3. If you predict a wild card spot, say so NO 4. If you predict a playoff appearance, how far will they go? NOWHERE
  9. Now he's a Met-loving big shot!

  11. Gary Matthews will do whatever he can to make the team.
  12. The manager of the team certainly should have a say in who makes the team and who doesn't.
  13. It does seem pretty clear that he's not slotted for that number 5 spot. (Niese wins the job with a 6.00 ERA! What a season this is shaping up to be!) But given the undeniable shakiness of the starting rotation (at least 80 per cent of it, anyway) it would be foolish to waste Figueroa, because he could very well be needed. I'd prefer to keep him around in the bullpen at least through April, even if it means that somebody like Green or even Parnell has to spend some time in Buffalo.
  14. Is there a reasonable scenario where Figgy makes the team as a long reliever?
  15. On both my visits to Citi Field last year, my kids and I lined up to pay homage to The Apple, and to get photographed standing next to it. The problem was that the left side of the Apple (at least, for day games) was brightly lit, and the right side was in heavy shadow. It didn't really make for a great photo op. My solution would have been to put some kind of light source up above the Apple to the right. This idea seems better.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: I just want to keep posting until we get a page past poor Ms. Chamberlain. Admit it; you're as aroused by that photo as I am.
  17. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've ever heard a female voice calling a baseball game. (And no, I'm not overlooking Suzyn Waldman; I don't watch or listen to Yankee broadcasts.)
  18. I guess so. Apparently, it's "Beth."
  19. Is that a female voice doing the play-by-play on ESPN?
  20. There are two reasons not to use Captain Marvel in the campaign: Copyright laws are one, and the other is it would be way too geeky.
  21. Wow! That's even more impressive than this: Actually, it's not even close, is it?
  22. Who was it that was worrying that the fans might not show up on August 1? We should be worrying that the guests of honor won't show up on August 1.
  23. Are you sure that's not Joe Piscopo?
  24. Now that Ike Davis isn't breathing down his neck, he's able to relax.
  25. I guess I'd be a sucky GM then, if I'd trade Gary Matthews even up for Albert Pujols.
