  1. Applauding Chipper is classy. Applauding Mariano is pathetic.
  2. Alex Cora is the Schaefer Mets Player of the First Five Games of July. Can he hold the lead for the remaining 26 days? How motivated is he to see himself on a 1970's Topps baseball card?
  3. Not if we're talking about Uggla.
  4. Fman99 awarded a point to Jose Reyes, who did not appear in the game. I'll have to go into the database to remove his 0.09 points. 10. Paul LoDuca wasn't much of a power hitter, and the Mets won a division with him. Neither was Jerry Grote, but that was a whole different era.
  11. Two things I wonder about Josh Thole: 1. Is he about to be traded for a starting pitcher? 2. Is he about to claim the Mets starting catcher job?
  12. A few years ago, David Wright was thinking, "YUCK! This is the last time I accept a chocolate shake from Jaerock Lee!"
  13. Meanwhile, it's been almost two years since a Met has been named National League Player of the Week. A Mets player has been named NL POTW 74 times, and 44 distinct players have won. The most frequent NL POTW was Dwight Gooden, with 5. There are a few names on the list that might be considered a little surprising. 20. I know that the Win is a flawed stat (and often completely meaningless for relief pitchers) but I do like to see a starter who puts in a good effort rewarded with a W. And I dislike seeing a good start end with an L. Managing to the win occurs a lot less often than managing to the save, so I'm not nearly as concerned about it. I remember Jerry trying to get Niese a win a week or two ago in that rain-interrupted game when Niese was in danger of letting an 8-0 lead slip away. At least Jerry stepped in before the lead went away entirely. I wish he'd do the same with Francisco Rodriguez in save situations, like on Saturday.
  21. I wouldn't recognize Cano if he bit me on the ankle. And he better not!

  23. I'm rooting for a 60-inning game.
  24. I have to say, that quick visit Jerry made to the mound, with the instant turnaround, was way cool.
