I would like them to sign him to a five-year deal, but at what AAV? I think that the goal should be to be fair to him but also leave some wiggle room for Syndergaard to be able to surpass that AAV in a few years when it is time to lock him up past the arbitration years (give Noah a goal to shoot towards).

So what should that number be?

I don't think their cases are comparable.
de Grom hits free agency at age 33. Syndergaard at age 29. That alone will make Syndergaard massively more expensive to resign.

A 5 year deal to deGrom now buys out the arbitration years and one FA season? I'd say that is worth $50-$60M. Not that I'd recommend doing it.
