Rafael Montero will pitch for the Mets because somebody has to. Homer Bailey will assume the same role for the Reds. Get psyched.

Homer Bailey was, along with Phil Hughes, the top pitching prospect in all of baseball a decade ago as the 2007 season started.
And while neither has had a bad career, they both kind of prove the old BP adage of TNSTAAPP: There's No Such Thing As A Pitching Prospect
Bailey: 64-60; 4.44 ERA; 1.36 WHiP
Hughes: 88-79; 4.47; 1.31

Bailey also winds up 6th on the list of longest active pitcher to have pitched for just one ML team, although injuries have left him with far fewer games pitched compared to the rest of that group.

Bailey - Cincy, made his ML debut in 2007 - tonight is his 187th ML game
Glen Perkins, Twins 2006 - 404 games pitched (although only 40 starts)
Adam Wainwright, Cards 2005 (as I'm sure you remember) - 343
Matt Cain, Giants 2005 - 340
Felix Hernandez, Mariners 2005 - 372
Justin Verlander, Tigers 2005 - 379

All were 1st round draft picks except for Hernandez since he wasn't subject to the draft at all.
All but Wainwright have been only with one organization. Wainwright was drafted by the Braves but traded before his reached the majors.

It's bottom 3rd, 2 outs

Excellent. I'm in sync :). Thank you.

OK, the Yanx just got smacked in the back half of their double-header after losing a tight one earlier this afternoon, all of which complete a three-game sweep by the Indians in advance of
their final series of the year with the BoSox, a four-gamer in the Bronx starting Thursday.

Blowing the lead in this here game would really put a damper on what so far is a great baseball day. So don't do it, OK?

Reyes's first steal of 3rd tonight was both meaningless and too late -- why sit there with no outs and then one out then decide to go once there are two?
And his second attempt there was just plain stupid (1st & 2nd, #3 hitter up, 2 outs) particularly with maybe the best throwing catcher in the league back there.

Yeah, dat wuz dum.

Upside: this is a good-hitting team that Montero is shutting down.

Downside: this is a bad-pitching team keeping the Reds in the game anyhow.

Wow, 117 pitches. But if Terry had pulled him and gone with Ramos to start the inning, I'd have bellyached.

Big strikeout!

Come on! Should have pulled him after one baserunner.

This.
Now he can be the loser.
Not really great for the guy's confidence (or record), Terry.
Ocorta!
( IIRC, that's Japanese for pissed off. And I'm not Japanese, so that tells you how really pissed off I am.)
