Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Mikkeller will open a 10k sq ft brewery in the right field corner (Mets offices/ticketing stuff now) 60 taps. This is cool. [tweet:10i93q94] [/tweet:10i93q94]
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Wait, Mikkeller? So does this mean that it'll be, like, a room with a conference table, a few tablets, and a phone with their actual, physical brewery on speed dial?

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 This sounds awesome. But being open all year, man, not a lot of people are going to wander into the Citi Field parking lot in mid-January.

I know McFaddens tried to open all year but that place is garbage. I want to say this is a death knell for it, but I think there's a certain culture of sports fans that are gonna stick their nose up at Beer Geek Breakfast stout and the odd beers and stick to garbage bud light in dirty taps. And _something_ is going to be built across the street, mall-like, shopping like. Now that it's razed it's almost eminent. People will be in the area. Plus it's an actual brewery, like, not a gimmick. So they're going to supply and distribute the beer around the city+.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Yeah, took one look at McFadden's and said 'ick'. Hopefully this'll be a little more upscale.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Certainly on game days it will. And I won't drive out to Flushing for a beer. Oh well.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 That is good news for Mets fans and Flushing though I'm sure Mikkeller will take up up the ass for a few years before the Flushing Entertainment District is built up. My understanding is 126 street faces several years of environmental remediation and infrastructure improvements before the CitiMall Mixed-Use Monstrous Thing can openWould this joint take the place of McFaddens? Agree with those who say the food/atmosphere/positioning there is a complete swing-and-miss when it shouldn't have been. The era of the Irish Pub+Grill ended about a decade ago, even for sports fans.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 And they blast the music so loud in there you can't talk to who you'rewith and barely to the waitstaff..."How's everything?""My burger tastes like it was cooked yesterday and the fries are cold.""Great! 'nother round for you guys?"

The era of the Irish Pub+Grill ended about a decade ago, even for sports fans.Irish pub and grill is like one step up from 'dive bar' and they're all dying because they were all mostly garbage. The ones that aren't have a healthy football watching crowd I think. no, it's going into the Metropolitan Hospitality office space between the RF gate and Amway/CF gate. They'll be fine though, as I said, they're using the brewery to support their existing network. Currently the Citi Field beers are brewed in San Diego. Now they'll be local. The same with all the other Mikkeller brews around.Supposedly his Evil Twin brother is opening something in Brooklyn.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Hard to say how they'll do money-wise without knowing the lease details.Do they pay rent, percentage rent or both? If the Mets really want a betterplace do they offer first-couple-of-year's incentives? I've always wondered howthat works with places like Shake Shack (one of the busiest ballpark bizzez ever) and what cut the Wilpies get.Miss HVAC Guy at Shea... he knew shit like this (or would find out for us).

Debating with my cousin about actually buying game tickets, or hanging out there and McFaddens (always wanted to see if they low key it as the game is being played) for the entire time!
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 So what happens to Freddie's Amway store?
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Next door. This is right around the corner of the RF Gate, space formerly used as offices for Citi’s company for event planning.
