G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 As the old-timey tune goes, Meet me in St. Louie, Jakey. He'll be taking on Cardinal All-Star Carlos Martinez. I was going to say "fellow All-Star". I should be saying fellow All-Star. Anyway, deGrom needs to pitch like that he was not dubbed. He's certainly performed as such. The Mets will have gone more than 72 hours without playing by Friday night 8:15 EDT. One assumes Terry will bemoan his team having too much rest, which in some ways is as bad as not enough, it's hard to stay loose when you're not getting your innings in, which explains all the cramping the Mets went through when they took the field at Busch Stadium.Ah, enough worst-case scenarios. They tend to take care of themselves without us inventing them in advance. #LGM.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 -- Matt Carpenter was just moved back to 2B after spending most of the last full season at 1st which kind of seemed like a strange place for him anyway. But Kolten Wong is DL'd so Carpenter slides over while rookie call-up Luke Voit (now THERE's a quick autograph!) takes the reins at 1st.-- The Cuban SS they seemed to concoct out of thin air in 2016, Aledmys Diaz, is also DL'd so rookie call-up Paul (Come Back and Stay) DeJong is the fill-in.And if it seems like the Cards have a different SS every year, and then that guy never plays well for any other team after he leaves, it's because that's pretty much true. 2007 - David Eckstein2008 - Cesar Izturis2009-10 - Brendan Ryan2011 - Ryan Theriot2012 - Raffy Furcal2013 - Pete Kozma2014-15 - Jhonny Peralta2016 - Aledmys Diazbtw, they seem to do the same thing with closers:2007 - Jason Isringhausen2008-10 - Ryan Franklin2011 - [u:21124a54]Fernando Salas[/u:21124a54]2012 - Jason Motte 2013 - Edward Mujica2014-15 - Michael Rosenthal2016-17 - Seung-hwan OhAnd even though you'd probably have trouble even remembering half of those guys, the Cards managed to use that turntable of spare parts at these two important positions to get themselves into the playoffs six times over the last decade including into two WS.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Aledmys Diaz got sent to the minors.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Picket fence starting, deGrom deGromming so far. All's good thru 2.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Or ... give up another homer to center. That's another option.Brlfr.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I suck at game thread participation.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Mets in the lead. You both just be yourselves. If they lose this lead, you can try being each other.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 So much for strategic baseball tonight.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 With that blue hair Carlos Martinez is sporting these days, shouldn't he be pitching in south Florida?
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Answer to the shift in a nutshell, just keep doing it until it stops...
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Balls flying off the bat tonight for all parties.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I don't know if Bruce is safe or out, but his foot was a foot past the bag before making actual contact.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 It seemed like Fowler quit on that drive by Rivera 20 seconds before it landed.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Horrible slide, lucky he didn't hurt himself.(I know Keith has said bad slide like seven times)

It involves some bawdy talk.
