Oh goodie - an extra game on nickname uniform weekend....

Even before an extra game was added on to this weekend series due to an early season rainout, this was a series that a lot of fans had circled on their calendars which only goes to show that God hates those who circles dates on calendars.
I mean, other than the fact that the Mets couldn't win the division even if everything broke right from here on out and the Nats couldn't lose the division if everything broke wrong, it's also a series that'll be missing:
Granderson, Conforto, Bruce, Duda, Syndergaard, Wheeler, Harvey, Reed, Matz, Reyes, Walker, and Lugo just to name a few … but not Jeurys Familia!, so there’s that.
On the other side, there'll be no Bryce Harper, Jayson Werth, Adam Eaton, Trea Turner, Max Scherzer, Brian Goodwin, Steven Drew, Joe Ross, or relievers Koda Glover, Ryan Madson, and Enny Romero
Steven Strasburg is just back from the DL but he pitched on Thursday so we'll miss him as well.

But despite all those losses, the Nats are in 1st place by 13.5 games at 75-49, are 28-16 since July 1st, and are coming off taking 2 of 3 in Houston where they got out of town just ahead of the hurricane.
Mets now have the worst record in all of baseball in August (7-16) and 7th worst overall for those of you looking at draft positioning.

I bet ESPN is glad they grabbed THIS game. Oh well, it'll just give them more time to discuss the goofy uniform gimmick for the weekend, the Little League World Series (which they wouldn't touch
with a ten foot pole if not for the fact that they own it), the McGregor/Mayfield debacle, and of course their upcoming football schedule.

Seth Lugo is in line to start one of the Sunday games if his health checks out. Tommy Milone might be the other although if you’ve got the afternoon free you may want to put in an application …. it can’t hurt.
