dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Joe Buck isn't a patch on his father. But I couldn't stand Jack either. He had an authoritative, almost bullying, tone, like a high school principal explaining why you deserved that detention. Kalas was another one like that. I guess it was a style left over from radio; you hear something like it in the old newsreels on TCM. Joe just sounds like a know-it-all who doesn't know shit.
Guest cooby Guests Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Hey they aren't playing tonight. I didn't have to wear this shirt.

Hell, the power went out and Fox wouldn't even let Matt Vasgersian and Smoltz lead the show last year during the WS.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Chi. Cubs at ClevelandWhen: 8:00 PM ET, Tuesday, November 1, 2016Where: Progressive Field, Cleveland, OhioSportsDirect Inc.The World Series could be decided by the team that gets a lead early and turns things over to the bullpen. The Chicago Cubs finally became that team with the early lead and the dominant reliever in Game 5 and play another elimination game when they visit the Cleveland Indians for Game 6 on Tuesday. The Cubs, who trail 3-2 in the series, asked Aroldis Chapman to record eight outs in a one-run game Sunday and were rewarded when he allowed one hit and struck out four. "That was our best opportunity," Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters of the decision to have Chapman work overtime. "I thought right now, based on the bullpen usage recently, he's actually kind of fresh. He hasn't been overused in the last part of this season nor throughout the playoffs." The Indians, who used left-hander Andrew Miller for multiple innings since the start of the postseason, are keeping things loose while following the lead of manager Terry Francona. "We have the good plane again, so we can fly around for a while," Francona told reporters of the trip back to Cleveland. "I don't care. Then we'll show up whatever day is the next day, and see if we can beat them."TV: 8 p.m. ET, FOXPITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Jake Arrieta (1-1, 3.78 ERA) vs. Indians RH Josh Tomlin (2-0, 1.76)Arrieta took a no-hitter into the sixth inning in Game 2 at Cleveland and ended up with the win, his first of the postseason. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner had a little trouble controlling his arsenal with three walks, but struck out six. "I just want to execute with quality in and out of the strike zone, and try to get ahead in the count as early and as often as I can to open up some more options for myself," Arrieta told reporters of his approach to Game 6.Tomlin surrendered two hits in 4 2/3 scoreless innings in Game 3 and was yanked by Francona at the first hint of trouble in a game the Indians went on to win 1-0. The 32-year-old Texan allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last eight appearances going back to the regular season and yielded one home run in that span. Tomlin is going on three days' rest in Game 6 but only threw 58 pitches in Game 3.WALK-OFFS:1. Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks would start a potential Game 7 against Indians RH Corey Kluber, who pitched Games 1 and 4.2. Indians SS Francisco Lindor is batting .421 in the World Series and hit safely in four of five games, going 0-for-3 in the Arrieta-started Game 2.3. Chicago OF Kyle Schwarber is expected to return to the lineup as DH.

At worst announcers root for stories and, like it or not Cleveland, the biggest story this year would be the Cubs winning it all and the second biggest would be the Cubs NOT winning. In most other years the Indians would be the sentimental choice but not this year and not against the Cubs. It had been something like five years since MLB's WS ratings topped those of the NFL's Sunday night game but they did so significantly this week [15.something to around 11) and that's against a Cowboys game on Sunday, and a good Cowboy team at that vs a big city division rival (Philly).Schwarber is a story within the bigger story so it's not a surprise that the booth latches onto that.
Guest cooby Guests Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Lol. Joe buck looks pretty in his wedding dressI've hated the cubs all my life and I would root against them in the WS no matter who they played but certainly against my sons favorite team I hope they get crushed
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Prediction: Tribe wins by a touchdown+field goal+safety = 12! Three-day party starts tonight in Cleveland around 11:47 PM. That's all I got, the crystal has gone dark.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 I get the bias perspective comes from both sides with the national announcers. With Buck I think it's palpable he understands this and to compensate he comes off almost flippant and insincere, as though his real feeling is he hates both teams and would prefer not to be put in this situation in the first place.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 I've never been a fan of Joe Buck, but he's decidedly not gotten on my nerves this World Series. Smoltz may know pitching, but I wish he'd been as effective against the Mets as he has been as a game analyst.

And I really thought he was safe, no question, in real time. I think Chapman hurt his leg there. Trying to hide it walking off the field but he was limping right after the play. This is getting dramatic.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Maddon should have pulled Chapman after the RizzoBomb. He won't get thru the 9th. They might not need him tomorrow with all hands on deck.Indians have a man on 1st, no outs.9-2 Cubs.
