Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Uncle Bartolo, 12-7, 3.35 vs. Stephenson, 2-0, 3.00
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 That would be Robert Stephenson, the Reds 1st round pick out of a California HS who's been their #1 prospect over the last few years and a top-30 overall prospect during that time. This will be his 3rd ML start but the first since early in the season. He started the year with the Reds, pitched twice in April, won both starts, and then spent the rest of the year in AAA Louisville. Not quite sure what the story behind all that was. If it was an injury it was a minor one as he's thrown pretty much a full season (24 AAA starts plus 2 ML ones). Pitched only so-so in the minors this year.Other stuff 'bout the Reds - who we haven't seen since sweeping a three game series in late April:#1 catcher Devin Mesoraco is out for the season. The duo of Tucker Barnhart & Ramon Cabrera alternate.1B - Joey Votto and his league-leading .435 OBA plays every day2B - Brandon Phillips still hanging in there at age 35 although is less than he once wasSS - Zack Cozart; good glove, so-so offense3B - Eugenio Suarez; 20 HRsLF - Adam Duvall. The 28 y/o (just yesterday) had 8 career ML HRs coming into this season. Exploded for 29 this season alone although only 7 since the end of June.CF - speedster Bill Hamilton can run 'em down in the OF and run all over the bases if and when he manages to get onRF - something named Scott Scheduler is Jay Bruce's replacement. And now you know as much about him as I do.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Reinforcements will be arriving. From Yahoo Sports: The Mets have called up INF Matt Reynolds from Triple-A Las Vegas and will have RHP Rafael Montero on the taxi squad for Mondaay's game against the Reds in Cincinnati. On Tuesday, OF Brandon Nimmo, LHP Josh Edgin, RHP Erik Goeddel, and infielders Eric Campbell and T.J. Rivera will be promoted from Las Vegas. Additionally, the Mets will select the contract of INF Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. If/when he appears in a game, Cecchini will be making his Major League debut. To make room on the roster on Tuesday, the Mets will transfer INF Neil Walker to the 60-day disabled list. In case you're wondering(I had to look it up), the taxi squad for MLB is for players who are added to the major league roster as the 26 th player for "special circumstances". But its after September 1. The rosters have expanded for up to all the players on the team's 40 man roster. So, why the taxi squad? Why couldn't they have just brought him up? Is it because he won't count against his arbitration (or whatever they call it) time? And, Campbell is still here? Is he the one who has those missing pictures of Jeff's last party in Vegas?Later
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) I thought that they might find a way to add Roger Bernadina (who isn't on the 40-man but they could have DFA'd Campbell). Metsminors.net had a good suggestion to add some speed: http://metsminors.net/mets-could-benefit-from-stuarts-speed-in-september/Billy Hamilton got hurt yesterday which means that he won't steal 10 bases on Wednesday against Thor. Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Stephenson has walked 5 batsmen per 9 over the last 3- 4 seasons (like, his entire time in the high minors). As far as prospects go, he's like Wheeler, only with diminishing strikeouts. Wait his supposedly-USDA-prime ass out, make him throw strikes, and give Uncle Bart the same generous support he gets from his home furniture.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 An early lead is heartening, as red-eye games often lead to the team sleeping through the first six innings with two scratch hits and no runs.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 But no! He gets out of it![fimg=500:2qwqe8gk]http://ring.cdandlp.com/luckystar/photo_grande/114754906.jpg[/fimg:2qwqe8gk]

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Perhaps Colon's contributions to the surprising-music-playlist include Janelle Monae?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I'd watch "Remember the '90s With Wilmer Flores."
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 If Ron has never seen one episode of Friends, how does he know that whatkind of personality Ross has?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 MY favorite "Friends" episode is The One Where They Remembered How To Give The Hold Sign."I mean, could that baserunning BE any more embarrassing?I think I just nauseated myself a little just then.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Wilmer trying to get thrown out for the cycle.

He's responsible for his own skin there. Responsible for gazing at the ball and responsible for trying fro three anyhow.

Part of it is that it almost never happens the Kelly Johnson (and Cespedes) way, does it? The best we usually get is a push.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 According to Howie and Josh, Matt Reynolds' seat mate on last night's overnight flight from Vegas kept him up talking. I'm no redeye veteran-- I've only been on two-- but, Jesus Christ, what kind of sociopath even TALKS on a redeye?
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Uncle Bart is roly poly-ing along through five. It really is a delight to watch when he is on.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Always like seeing the opponent fail to score after a leadoff triple.
