Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Vince Velasquez vs Robert Gsellman -- 1:10 (only 7 day games left after today)Velasquez started off his first full season (55 IP w/Houston last year) great, beginning with a 6-inning/3-hit game vs the Mets on April 9 (a 1-0 Philly win) and following that up with a complete game 3-hit/16-K performance vs SDP. But lately, not so good: 9, 5, & 5 earned runs in his last three games, those 19 runs came in just 16.1 innings on 29 hits and 8 HRs with 5 BBs thrown in, although he did strikeout 23 in the process. On our side, this is the first of (at least!) three consecutive games with a trainee on the mound. Not sure why that fact calls for a Cespedes-less game but at least so far there's no word that broken body parts or major surgery is involved, although he was PH'd for late in Saturday's affair.4 - Cesar Hernandez8 - Odubel Herrera5 - Mikael Franco3 - Tommy Joseph9 - Aaron Altherr7 - Jimmy Paredes2 - AJ Ellis6 - Freddy Galvis9 - Vince Velasquez5 - Jose Reyes6 - Asdrubal Cabrera4 - Kelly Johnson9 - Jay Bruce (or some faint copy of him)7 - Curtis Granderson8 - Alejandro De Aza3 - James Loney2 - Travis d'Arnaud 1 - Robert Gsellman
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Roobs says Cespy strained his quad rounding the bases on his HR. Walker's back also acting up.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 From Star Ledger notes,Cespedes' quad is bothering him as is Neil Walker's back.Probably good to give both the day after night on a hot hot Sunday.http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2016/08/mets_phillies_lineups_for_series_finale.html#incart_river_index
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Loney doesn't make that play, there's a good chance the Mets are playing catchup ball most or all of the afternoon.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Asdrubal got crushed,Wrist, forearm and maybe knee.Loney has to be feeling it also.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Nice hit by Bruce. Wilmer had little chance passing third.Bags juiced.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Sac fly Grandy.That be 1-0Velasquez throwing many many pitches...getting tired..in inning one...
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 WE HAVE A PITCHER WHO CAN BUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 So here are the in-game injuries from just the past week.Tuesday - Niese removed in bottom 1stThursday - Lugo after the end of the 5thFriday - Ruggiano after the 5thSaturday - Cespedes in the bottom 7th, then Walker at the end of the 8thSunday - Cabrera in bottom 1 ... and maybe more to come, who knows! And let's look at Ruggiano's year while we're at it:- gets 4 ABs with Texas on opening day and gets sent down- gets 175 ABs in AAA then is released- gets signed by the Mets but goes on the DL after 6 ABs- comes off the DL but then goes back on 14 ABs later for a different injury

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Those are some weird numbers. Batted a paltry .173, but a really fat .173 with 44% of his hits going for extra bases, and had a big fat .127 walk rate also.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Pete McKanin shaking his head in the dugout right now talking to his SS: Galvis, son. Oh Galvis, son.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 There was nobody covering third behind Galvis, so he could have had a much bigger head start.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Who says d'Arnaud can't field throws on plays at the plate?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Boy, Gsellman sure works that gum hard.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Would have been nice if we'd traded for the REAL Jay Bruce.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 OK, we've got 4 innings (edit: 3-2/3) to beat up on an already beat-up bullpen.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Jerry Koosman is 4th on the all-time NYM CPF ranking project. WE don't under-rate him Gary!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Blah.I'd have gone to Familia here.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Just can't let this one get away from you, Mets.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Well this went to shit fast. Cannot run a lineup out there like that. If only we had an outfielder tearing it up in AAA.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 (edited) Gary reminds us that everyone of importance is also losing. Need to finda way to eeek this back (after stopping this 5-1 bleeding with one out in the seventh, please) Edited August 28, 2016 by Guest
