Off day report: Marlins are putting away the Phils 9-2 in the 8th. 16 hits. They will end up 41/2 out.

OEupdate: I might be bringing the Phils some luck. 9-3.
They are going to need ALOT of luck.

And the Nats lost to the Dodgers in an afternoon game while most of us weren't paying attention, so there's that.
Most notable about the game is that it was Strasburg's first loss of the year, his first in fact since we beat him last September 9th when a Kelly Johnson 8th inning HR tied it and then was followed by a 2R HR by Cespedes (off Drew Storen but with Strasburg's runner on base), it was the final game of a three-game sweep at CF.

Yesterday's loss was due to him serving up a 2R and a 3R HR to Justin Turner in the 1st & 4th innings. Remember when Turner got off to a slow start with just 3 HRs at the end of May and we all assumed (and by 'we' I mean 'me') that it showed he was finally coming back to earth following two partial seasons of above-his-head success? Well he's knocked 14 HRs since June 1st in only 160 ABs. I think I was less down on Turner while he was here than a lot of NYM fans but I can't claim to have seen this on the horizon, not the last six weeks nor the last 2-1/2 seasons.

Nobody saw this coming from Justin Turner expect possibly Anthony Recker.

Hoping Flores is in tonights lineup.

Jose Reyes looks like a dead fish. Sit his azz for a day.

Oooh, that sounds good!

Four cracks with RiSP in the first two innings and no hits (although a SF as one of the outs helps a bit).
IOW: Standard Operating Procedure for this team this year.

Posted

And now six shots in w/RiSP in three innings and, aside from the Sac Fly, none of the ABs have gone for hits, none have left the infield, none have even moved up a runner.

Being up 1-0 in nice and all but, as Angelo Dundee once told Sugar Ray Leonard; "You're blowing it kid!"

Just to keep the theme going here: An actual Hit! w/RiSP, an astroturf hit without astroturf gets a run in.
Other than that, two more non-hits w/RiSP: 1 for 8 plus a SF in 4 innings

I seem to be doing a solo act tonight.

That was a hard-working 5 outs for Robles. It took him over 30 pitches and a bad base-running play to get through it, but he did.
Meanwhile the Mets tacked two more non-productive non-hits (both Ks) onto their RiSP totals for the night. Now 1-10 w/RiSP and no hits in 12 PA

Loney hit that one so hard I think it straightened out Rodney's hat!!

YUGE insurance runs as Familia is set to face Miami's big boys coming up.

Cspedes is out there in the outfield in the ninth why?

OE: I guess De Aza is the natural sub and he's been burned.

And DOWN goes Stanton.

50 in a row. Amazin'.

I seem to be doing a solo act tonight.

Gah. I should have stopped back. The place was dead at game time.

Loney hit that one so hard I think it straightened out Rodney's hat!!

Ha. I thought his head was crooked. Ohhhh, it's the hat.

Gelbs quotes Verrett:
Verrett says Reyes is like a can of Red Bull bottled up like a human being.

Great to start off the weekend gaining on both the Jingoists and Istiophoridae.

Flores going 0-3 in his trips to the plate (though with a walk) and Loney hitting the difference-making homer really puts a crimp in the Mets-hate-Flores-Start-Him-over-Loney-Fulltime Movement.

But Walker going 0-5 a boost to the development of another movement.

srsly the guy is killing us up there.

Cast your vote!

REMINDER: =#400080]As noted in the Schaefer thread, there will be a bit of a hiatus in voting availability because I'll be traveling the next two weeks. I may or may not be pasting box scores, but even if I do, it will be sporadic. If you prefer to make your voting choices while the memory of the game is fresh, you may want to consider recording your points offline somewhere. I'll be returning around August 5 and will try to get caught up quickly after that.
