David Lennon writes in Newsday:

There are bad days, and then there are the stomach-turning, waking-nightmare, crawl-under-the-bed-type days that the Mets experienced yesterday.

How terrible was it? Put it this way: Losing Matt Harvey to season-ending surgery was the least of their problems.

Harvey's gone for the season. Cespy has a quad strain. Syndergaard's been diagnosed with "arm fatigue". Life is awful. Fanstats.com* predicts that the Mets will finish 23 games behind the Nationals. Sandy needs to make a move NOW!!!?!##?!?!?!?

I call bullshit. It's no fun to lose Harvey, but we haven't been getting anything out of him this season, so it's not making this year's team any worse than it already is. And what it already is is a team that would still make the playoffs if the season ended today, and is still within striking distance of Washington. Losing Cespedes sucks. But we've won without him before. Nobody has any clue what's up with Syndergaard. But, you know, maybe we can win the odd game anyway. Logan Verrett has a knack for winning games as a spot starter. Flores is hitting. Walker is hitting. Granderson is getting on base.

We had a bad day yesterday. Bad days happen.

I'll just ignore the fact that Scherzer is pitching tonight.

Me, I feel better now. I feel better than James Brown.

One of the original names considered for the Mets was "The Avengers."

And like the Avengers, they've won without Thor before, and will win without Thor again.

Earth to Doris
By Was (Not Was)

At the loveless motel and restaurant out on Highway 33
The matchbook says "Call for reservations.
Country ham and biscuits, delicious steaks"

I met a woman there one night
No moon, just, just diesel trucks
She kissed me like she was hungry
so we got a room

In the morning she looked like a horse
Smoking little cigars
Playing these tapes of her husband
She says, "Doesn't he sound like Elvis?"
She makes champagne out of 7-Up and cheap wine
Like a chemist

Next to one of those insect electric chairs
Her skin gleaming blue every time a fly died
I read the funnies.
I laughed anyway.
"Something's burning somewhere" I said
"Yeah, it's us" she says

"You both want coffee?" the waitress says
Yes, two, two coffees
That's perfect on this cold, dim, fluorescent morning
And a couple of those donuts over there, right Doris?
Right Doris?
Earth to Doris, earth to Doris
Come in Doris, earth to Doris

Really? Can't find a spot for Flores anywhere?

Geez, Terry. I mean yeah it's nice to have a hot bat on the bench but isn't it better to get that hottie 4 ABs?

I imagine his position would be that it's been hot in part because of the benevolent situations he's been inseinserting it in, but yeah.

Actually it was Kenny Albert.
The bigger question is, how does he know about the site but Gary C apparently not? Gary knew that McKnight had multiple unis the other day but didn't know how many and had to have one of their lackeys look it up for him

NYM pitchers last successful sacrifice bunt was?
- sometime earlier this year
- about a decade ago
- during the Bush administration sometime ... the elder Bush.
- I don't remember which one specifically, but it coincided with one of the moon landings

You may choose one of the above.

The real question is why I'm blacked out on the internet because I live in Baltimore, which is an hour outside of DC, but in a different media market, even though it's a damned national broadcast.

Bunting with one out early on sucks anyways.

Publicly making like he doesn't know is an excellent cover for his lurking, is it not?
