Trying to re-start the winning streak cuz a 3-1 series win would feel a whole lot better than a 2-2 split.
And while we can write off yesterday's loss to being forced into a sixth starter, we still got a whopping 7 hits off of the league's statistical worst pitcher (and one of its worst hitters) who wound up knocking in almost as many runs as he allowed.

Matz faces off against Zach Davies, a 23 y/o RH with 16 ML starts under his belt which, considering he's listed at 6'0"/[u:2sw7ouir]155[/u:2sw7ouir], that's about all that's under his belt. It's not often that I see pro athletes my height that I out-weigh by 20 pounds unless they're distance runners or cyclists.
Davies, a former 26th round draft pick (2011) by Baltimore, is 4-3; 4.29; 1.24 in 10 starts this season [7-5, 4.07 in 16 starts overall]. He made his ML debut last September following a deadline deal with the O's - which was pretty quick advancement through the minors for such a late round pick out of HS so maybe this skinny, baby-faced kid's got something going for him, at least once he gets beyond the ID checkpoints and the 'You Must Be This Tall To Enter' signs posted outside each stadium's clubhouse.

NY Mets at Milwaukee
When: 2:10 PM ET, Sunday, June 12, 2016
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
SportsDirect Inc.

The New York Mets will try to record only their second series victory in the last five when they visit the Milwaukee Brewers for the finale of a four-game set on Sunday. The Mets took the first two games of the series but suffered a 7-4 setback on Saturday to give the Brewers a shot at a split.

New York is looking for offense wherever it can get it and are finally receiving some good swings from leadoff hitter Curtis Granderson in the series. The veteran is 6-for-12 with two home runs, a triple and a double in the first three games to push his batting average from .203 to .219. The Brewers were making a run at a .500 record before dropping the first two to the Mets and sit at 29-33 overall after getting a pair of home runs from Ryan Braun in Saturdays win. Braun went 0-for-13 with four strikeouts in the previous three games and had gone seven straight without recording multiple hits before breaking out with the two blasts.

TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, WPIX (New York), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets LH Steven Matz (7-2, 2.39 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Zach Davies (4-3, 4.29)

Matz had a string of seven straight wins come to an end with a no decision on May 31 and suffered a rare loss at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The 25-year-old struck out eight but scattered two runs, eight hits and a pair of walks to raise the pitch count and force him out after five innings against the Pirates. Matz started against Milwaukee on May 20 and earned a win while yielding two runs and three hits in seven frames.

Davies is on a roll with wins in three straight and dominated in his last two turns. The 23-year-old allowed three hits and did not walk a batter in eight scoreless innings against St. Louis on June 1 and followed it up by holding the Oakland Athletics to two runs and two hits in seven frames on Tuesday. Davies went up against New York on May 21 and was reached for four runs in 5 1/3 innings while giving up home runs to Granderson and Yoenis Cespedes.

WALK-OFFS:
1. Mets 2B Neil Walker left Saturdays game with tightness in his lower back and is day-to-day.
2. Milwaukee 2B Scooter Gennett is 9-for-23 with five RBIs in the last five games.
3. New York C Travis dArnaud (shoulder) is back to catching in minor league rehab games.

Not exactly how we drew it up pre-season, eh?

Given yesterday's debacle, my wonderful wife offered to forego our trip to the zoo and see the Mets again instead!

We're here!

Terry Collins in the hospital at game time. Was not feeling well and was brought there before the game started.

Reportedly okay. That's all I've heard.

One hit against this string-bean so far. Fielding like a little league team is not helping.
Very nice inning from Matz there. Needed only 7 pitches :)

After 4, 3-0 Beermakers.

Between the lineup and the fielding, they are giving this game away.

They already gave this game away. I do not feel a comeback in the air so a comeback would be that much sweeter.

5-0 Aleheads

Putting aside all the other embarrassments for a moment: if Plawecki can't throw any better than what he's shown then he can't be a major league catcher, and if he can't hit any better than he's shown then he can't play anywhere else either.

Depressingly agree.

Mets finally run the string bean from the mound. We got something going in the 7th, which has included two hits. 2 HITS!!

WTF? Both teams are playing little league ball. Cripes. We shudda scored there.

Still 5-0 Lavern & Shirlys

1st inning: bases-loaded/one out -- K, FO
7th inning: 1st & 3rd/no outs -- GO/E3, GO, FO

Not only don't they get hits w/RiSP but they can't even make their outs in an order that would get runs in.

The remainder of the innings they just dispensed with the annoying baserunner part of the game, opting instead to suck 1-2-3.

Nice piece if hitting by Cespedes, ropes a double to the wall in left center.

If Lags didn't score on the Grandy rip I would have thrown something at the TV.

5-3 Hineyhops

That this game is still slightly/possibly winnable is stunning.
I just hope they don't go and do something stupid like loading the bases with no outs or something because then we'll have no chance at scoring.

Haven't been able to use PsP7 since my PC went down.If I could do graphics that would read, Mets lost, I was pissed off!

I may have seen enough of Reynolds. Swinging at ball four late in the game was crucially bad. But I certainly have seen enough of DeAza. He is fuckin' useless.

Shabby play, shabby pitching by Matz, shabby game. We all get one really embarrassing game a month. This better be the one. Don't wanna see another one of these for awhile.

Get well soon TC (still no updated details).

Another pitiful performance but cooler temps today than yesterday.

The Mets are now 4.5 games back in the East and have fallen out of the first wildcard spot.
