Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 It seems like a new tradition I've seen over the last few. When a Met hits a KABOOM!, the first teammate he meets at the dugout, he bows his head and the teammate respectfully removes his helmet and then tosses it to the wind in celebration.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 That teammate is always Asdrubal Cabrera. It's a tradition of his.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I've seen other teams do it this year as well, but I think Asdrubalstarted it off...
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Yes, this does seem to be a thing. What I haven't noticed is who takes off Asdrubal's helmet when he hits a home run.OE - No more auto-replace with KABOOM!?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I know that's a tradition on the Nats where Asdrubal played for a time in 2014.Not sure if he was the guy who brought that act to that team or if he just carried it off from there (or maybe both).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 28, 2016 Author Posted May 28, 2016 Lagares and Cabrera give us a nice little demo.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 it doesn't work as well when Cabrera hits them.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 28, 2016 Author Posted May 28, 2016 Cabrera may be superstitious about this thing. Grandy took the helmet off himself and dropped it before entering the scrum, so Asdrubal, denied his duty, withdrew from the pack and went down a-crabbing his way between the feets to recover it.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I think he was concerned Grandyman was gonna turn an ankle on it.

That was...interesting. I did kinda laugh. Cause he had to worm his way in there.

But it's notable that the Cabrera was the one to have that concern, never taking his eyes off the prize.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 it's one of those things that's making the rounds is various forms around the majors, like the trend of dumping whatever leftover seeds/gum are in the bucket in the dugout. A-Rod was a big collector:http://www.pinstripealley.com/2013/8/13/4616636/alex-rodriguez-walk-off-home-runs-hitter-helmet-chase-gifs
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Cabrera takes off the helmets of everyone who doesn't take off his own. But who takes off his helmet? He can't because he doesn't remove helmets from those who take off their own.And who shaves the barber?Paging Bertrand Russell.
