Surely somebody else has seen this.

A slightly more traditional film from Alejandro Iñárritu (yeah, I admit it, I copied and pasted his surname). Reminded me a lot of FIRST BLOOD, tbh, with the survival/revenge plot and all the field stitches. Nice to see Leonardo bring his "A" game for a change. Tom Hardy was marginally more comprehensible in this than he was a Bane.

Man, the fact i don't read Greek (very well) really hurt my enjoyment of this film, because I couldn't understand the Native American dialogue between Glass and his wife and son, which were probably the more powerful scenes in the film.

Yeah, it's Oscar-bait and the field looks so ordinary this year Iñárritu may just repeat BEST PICTURE.

I really disliked this. Pretentious, poorly paced and self-important. And don't get D-Dad started on the geography of the trek (from the Pacific Northwest downriver to the Plains?).

But I agree - it's a splashy film in a weak year, so it has a decent shot at Best Picture despite not deserving the honor.

It's as if Jeremiah Johnson starred in Apocalypse Now, as directed by Terrence Malick.
Gorgeous, moving, haunting, tragic and the best movie of the year.
Leo is finally going to get his Oscar.

I felt a few of the scenes in the snow were redundant. We get it, it was cold. But that doesn't take much away from the fact that it was a very good film. I gave it 4 1/2 stars.
The subtitles during the Native American dialogue were clear in English. And by that I also mean readable. Sometimes, they are done poorly - there is no contrast between the words and the background scenery. But these were done well.
Leonardo deserves his Oscar.

Finally saw this on cable. It was better than I thought it would be.

Leo won the Oscar for this, but really, with the makeup, special effects, fight choreography and lack of dialogue, I thought many actors could have pulled the lead role off just as well. Tom Hardy was the best actor in this flick.

The cinematography Oscar was well deserved with the nearly total natural light and outdoor settings. The opening sequence and hand-to-hand fight sequence at the end were brilliantly done.

Two other fairly recent movies I mentioned on this forum (and apparently no one else saw) which are both pretty much all-Hardy start to finish (literally so in one case): LOCKE (2014) and LEGEND (2015)

I see LEGEND playing on cable from time to time and will need to catch it next time I see it. Unfortunately, I often confuse it for the 1985 Tom Cruise fantasy flick.

just saw LEGEND. It's not a great movie (sort of rambling), but Hardy gives not one, but two great performances in it. I haven't seen LOCKE yet, but i'm planning to.
