Memories of Michael Cuddyer

I remember him like this, because this is how he made me feel most of the time -

Seriously, from the get go I just saw him as the second coming of Mo Vaughn. It was hard for him to disappoint me because I never had any expectations for him.

Other than that I think of him as David Wright's friend, and how ironic it was that we were stuck with an unproductive Cuddyer for a season where Wright was largely absent -

I do commend him from walking away from the contract. My gut tells me that the team will be better off without him than they were with him.

I remember him getting far too many at bats in crucial situations in the postseason where he'd look at three pitches go by or ground out weakly. It really sucked. He seemed like a nice guy otherwise.

Hey, remember when he cost us that fifteenth-overall draft pick?

I don't feel like dumping on him, so here's something positive. For a guy with bad wheels, he was a surprisingly good baserunner. He had a great sense of when to be aggressive, when to hold back, and once he got in gear he actually moved pretty fast, in a knees-up Jose Valentin sort of way. I wish we could have seen him when he wasn't a physical wreck.

Before Game 5 of the World Series, when there was really nothing to say but someone had to be the face of the team at the obligatory pre-game press conference, he represented the team and did so with confidence and class.

And we don't know the extent of how his veteran experience helped the team, especially the young players. Perhaps there was no correlation or perhaps his demeanor helped in ways that we don't appreciate.
