Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 The Mets are about to make their fourth appearance in the National League Division Series. The first two times, in 1999 and 2000, they got there as a result of being the National League's Wild Card team. In 2006 and now, in 2015, they're in this series because they won the National League Eastern Division title. In 1999, the Mets defeated the Diamondbacks in four games, and did the same to the Giants in 2000. In 2006, the Mets swept the three-game series from the Dodgers. In this thread we'll take a look at the NLDS club records, most of which are fairly modest, given that the Mets have only played 11 NLDS games in their history. Active Mets are listed in bold text. This list will be updated at the conclusion of the NLDS. There will certainly be at least a few updates, in the Games Started section, and in the Wins and/or Losses section as well. The original version of this thread, from 2006BATTING LEADERSGames Played8 - Benny Agbayani, Edgardo Alfonzo, Robin Ventura6 - Mike Piazza4 - Rickey Henderson, John Olerud, Rey Ordez, Jay Payton, Timo PerezAt Bats34 - Edgardo Alfonzo28 - Robin Ventura25 - Benny AgbayaniRuns7 - Edgardo Alfonzo5 - Rickey Henderson3 - Mike Bordick, Carlos Delgado, Cliff Floyd, John OlerudHits9 - Edgardo Alfonzo8 - Benny Agbayani7 - John OlerudDoubles3 - Edgardo Alfonzo2 - Benny Agbayani, Shawn Green, Robin Ventura, =#0000BF]David Wright1 - Darryl Hamilton, Paul Lo Duca, Rey Ordez, Timo Perez, Mike Piazza, Chris Woodward, Todd ZeileTriplesNone.Home Runs4 - Edgardo Alfonzo1 - Benny Agbayani, Carlos Delgado, Cliff Floyd, John Olerud, Todd Pratt, Robin VenturaRuns Batted In11 - Edgardo Alfonzo6 - John Olerud4 - =#0000BF]David WrightTotal Bases24 - Edgardo Alfonzo13 - Benny Agbayani10 - John Olerud, Robin VenturaBases on Balls8 - Robin Ventura5 - Carlos Beltran4 - Edgardo Alfonzo, Mike Piazza, Todd ZeileStrikeouts7 - Mike Piazza6 - Benny Agbayani5 - Rey OrdezPITCHING LEADERSGames5 - John Franco4 - Armando Benitez, Turk Wendell3 - Dennis Cook, Pedro Feliciano, Aaron Heilman, Billy WagnerWins1 - Armando Benitez, Pedro Feliciano, John Franco, Tom Glavine, Bobby Jones, Guillermo Mota, Rick Reed, Turk Wendell, Rick WhiteLosses1 - Mike Hampton, Kenny RogersInnings Pitched15.2 - Al Leiter12.0 - Rick Reed9.0 - Bobby JonesGames Started2 - Al Leiter, Rick Reed1 - Tom Glavine, Mike Hampton, Bobby Jones, John Maine, Kenny Rogers, Steve Trachsel, Masato YoshiiComplete Games1 - Bobby JonesShutouts1 - Bobby JonesSaves2 - Billy Wagner1 - John FrancoBases on Balls6 - Al Leiter5 - Rick Reed3 - Dennis Cook, Mike Hampton, Turk WendellStrikeouts10 - Al Leiter8 - Rick Reed6 - Kenny RogersRuns Allowed5 - Mike Hampton, Al Leiter4 - Rick Reed, Kenny Rogers, Masato Yoshii3 - Guillermo Mota, Darren OliverEarned Runs Allowed5 - Mike Hampton, Al Leiter4 - Rick Reed, Kenny Rogers, Masato Yoshii3 - Guillermo Mota, Darren OliverHome Runs Allowed2 - Masato Yoshii1 - Armando Benitez, Mike Hampton, Aaron Heilman, Al Leiter, Darren Oliver, Rick Reed

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 In looking at this stuff, I noticed that John Maine started Game 1 of the 2006 NLDS. That seems a strange choice; the Mets clinched early enough to set their rotation. I don't recall what led to this happening. Did it have something to do with Orlando Hernandez's injury?Glavine started Game 2, and Trachsel started Game 3.

RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Hernandez had a late injury, so they had Maine substitute.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Hits allowed: Rick Reed, 11.And Jones gets least hits allowed?

It was a late afternoon game, and I was busy working, but was exiting the office onto 3rd Ave. as that crazy play when two guys got tagged out at home on the same play was called on the radio. Stunningly stupid by the Dodgers who'd further eff themselves over when Joe Beimel got drunk and sliced up his up his hand (lame initial cover story: he was drinking a glass of water in the hotel room when the vessel unexpectedly broke). Had he stuck around we'd have probably lost too.
