Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Probably something less than fine. But probably something better than out for the post-season.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 This game (3:59) just missed becoming the sixth 9-inning game of four hours or longer this season - and I strongly suspect it would have been the only one with just 14 hits combined.Hmmmm, let's check on that.- Aug 29 (4:16): Seattle 7 - ChiSox 6; 24 hits total- July 6 (4:13): Dodgers 10 - Phillies 7; 26 hits- July 5 (4:01): Red Sox 5 - Astros 4; 19 hits -- this one was just 9 runs combined and 8-1/2 innings long .. WTF were they doing!?!?!- April 28 (4:01) Blue Jays 11 - Red Sox 8; 30 hits- April 11 (4:16) Tigers 9 - Indians 6; 22 hits
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Robles getting ejected was the turning point of the game. It looked like Terry was setting it up to be Robles in the 6th, Reed in the 7th, Clippard in the 8th, and Familia in the 9th. When he brought in Parnell, everything changed. (I was expecting that Carlos Torres would have come in to replace Robles; I was surprised to see Parnell there.)I also didn't like seeing Goeddel exit in favor of Niese after only one batter. My only comfort (that's the English word for "conforto") here is that Terry might have made fewer moves if he didn't have 38 players. He may have over-managed himself to this loss.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I was getting the idea is that he had the entire bullpen on a pitch count so they'd all be available today, or something.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 The real turning point was Verrett's plunking the guy. It turned out they couldn't afford to put that runner on on purpose.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 So, no to Bob Geren as next Mets manager?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 That's right, Terry was evicted when Robles was, wasn't he? I forgot that that was part of the deal.
Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I didn't get to follow the game last night, so maybe I'm in a calmer place, but I'm thinking that the Mets will hold an early 5-0 lead in the playoffs, especially since Parnell won't be pitching. In other words, I'm not going to panic.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Yes, I think they are more likely to hold an early 5-0 lead in the playoffs, but a lot less likely to get such a lead.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Not to take the pitching staff off the hook for last night, but getting ZERO hits after the 4th inning didn't help matters much. And the 4th inning hit was Wilmer's little roller through the box which plinked off 2nd base. Three guys could have fielded it but none did. That hit was like one of those fishes that you have to throw back because it doesn't meet the minimum standards.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Exactly right, FK. Like I said earlier, their at-bats, plate demeanor and-- hell-- their swings from about midgame-on were listless waves, perfunctory at best.
