I never really saw this guy everyday till now, but seen enough by now to conclude that while he's got lots of firepower and is obvious net benefit for the Met offense, he gets himself out WAY too much. Probably would be more devastating with a Duda following him.

he's improved each year, but only in the sense that he's crushing the ball more and more. walk rate has actually decreased. (he walked plenty in Cuba)
his BABIP has gone up steadily too, which makes sense from a crushing the ball standpoint.

Perhaps he's like a mini-Vlad? But I'm not sure he's a 'must have' or perennial mvp candidate or anything like that. i.e. I don't think it's a big deal if the Mets do end up, as is likely, not signing him for next year.

Also that nice place (last?) night where he gunned out the guy at third as a result of maybe not reading the ball that well? That feels like a standard Puig move, err a bit to give up an extra base and then gun the guy down.

That wacky bounce off the wall could not be anticipated. Last year Lags would have gotten leather under that before it hit the ground.

This year, though, Lagares is not Lagares. He would have caught today's triple to the wall last year.

I agree. I think he looks a lil heavier & slower. I also wonder if he was doing whatever Mejia was doing because the difference between last season and this can't be solely blamed on his bum elbow.

Oh, I think Lagares may have gotten that ball to the wall.

It's not like his sore elbow has directly affected his wheels. And to the extent it's indirectly effected them, it's seemingly got him playing deeper.
