That sick little snag occurred in the eighth inning of what was then a no-hitter, too.

Well, you know, no one in baseball history before St Derek had ever made a running catch towards the stands or made a jumping throw before.


As far as this catch goes in particular, there are two reasons why it'll forever be compared to Jeter's
a) he's Derek Jeter
that catch happened during a tense Yanx/Sox game which means it was one of the few games the ESPN crowd was actually aware of. Donaldson's catch today -- coming as it did on a Wednesday afternoon in Tampa on the eve of the NBA draft and on the day after Brady's summit meeting -- might as well have not happened at all.

But in reality there's probably a catch per month of that type that's far superior to Jeter's. Nolan Arenado had a ridiculous one a month or so back diving over the tarp.



P.S. Donaldson stayed in the game after his catch. Guess who did not?
