Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Danny Muno, your flight to Las Vegas departs JFK at 9:30. Don't be late.Parnell was at 91-92. Nice to see him pitching again but he does not look the same.I advocate hitting Freeman with pitches tomorrow. Does less damage.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Just too many mistakes. We dodged them all Friday night and dodged most of them today. But sooner or later that stuff is going to bite you.- you know your infield is in trouble when Campbell is used as a defensive replacement. Yeah I know it was a double switch more than anything, but when EC is a defensive upgrade you've got a problem. And even if the glove isn't a problem, Muno clearly doesn't have the arm for that side of the infield (neither does Campbell really but he at least fakes it better). And when I see this revolving door at 3rd, I think back to all the bitching some Met fans did for years about Wright's defense, about how anxious some were to shove him across the diamond to 1st. No folks, he's what you WANT in a 3B. - I was shocked that Fredi G didn't bring Grilli back after his 8 pitch 1-2-3 10th inning. And two leadoff singles later it was looking like a huge mistake ... until Ceciliani made a huger one.- I can't believe Simmons was able to get on top of that nose-high fastball up the middle leading off the 11th.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Are you just going to say this reflexively after each and every loss or are you going to toss in a cogent argument one of these days?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 This one kinda hurt. I mean, having lived very dangerously the last two days, it's relatively fortunate to walk away with one win, but it still hurt.Flores not picking the double play ball cleanly. Not that it matters that much without Tejada out, but that's why you use defensive replacements. And Muno spending the afternoon butchering third while he's likely a better bet to come up with those plays at short. There's only so far the "I wanna stay off the back page" logic can stretch.None of Muno's errata led directly to runs... but they were deeply consequential in that it stretched the pitching staff's workday, asking them to get three more outs that, in the end, they didn't have in them.Someday, somebody will wake up and realize how wasteful it is to default to changing relievers at the top of the inning whether the previous guy threw 3 pitches or 30. Bobby Parnell threw all of four pitches. With your closer out, and desperate for solutions, why not just let him start the ninth? And sooner or later, you've got to let Gilmartin see the light of day against Freeman and Markakis. You know you're playing Russian Roulette treating lex Torres as a lefty specialist when he's just not.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 It's always SMBD in my head. Until it isn't, anyhow.Like there's ever a bad reason to play "Swingtown."
