Suddenly, The Post is a bastion of great baseball writing. Amid the orgy Barry Svrluga postmortems, I missed this home run by Dan Steinberg, in which he documents over and over Matt Williams go-to baseball quote, "Why did you go to him in that spot? � He's our closer/eighth-inning guy/long man/etc."

It strikes me that Rizzo letting Williams continue managing the rest of the season is almost as head-scratchable as Williams letting Papelbon continue pitching.
