A team needs a third-string catcher, and that's who I am. Sure, I'm expected to quickly drop to fourth- or fifth-string, depending how quickly Plawecki and Carillo come along, but I woke up this morning and I noted that I'm the only one of we three with major league experience. Nine plate appearances (and one RBI!) worth of major league experience. In my self-serving logic, that makes me number three! Plus I'm a lefty hitter and I inspire music.

How long will I hang in there at number three? Until I catch a break and get to be number two, I hope! What do you think my 2015 season holds in store?

You know, somebody carries your bag for you when you get to The Show, Meat?

No predictions Mony Mony?

I predict he's gonna shoot 'em down and turn around.

I predict he's gonna shot gun, get it done.

Sleepin' in a hotel in the City of Sin
He's better off walkin' than benched for Kevin

He'd likely be a guy called up to replace a short-term injury to either d'Arnaud or Recker - even if he just winds up being that guy who does nothing more than warm up the pitchers and collect ML meal money for a week while never getting into a game. A longer injury then it's Plawecki time.
So Jonny Monny is rooting for something on the order of sprained thumbs and bone bruises, but not broken bones.

Three games, two starts, 1-8 with a double and a walk.

I imagine he gets the call if Dreamy goes down, but Plawecki gets the call if d'Arnaud goes down.

I'm calling it now....he will have a lousy career......the gall of him to do so.

Your move, Recker.

He certainly didn't hurt himself with that homer yesterday. But I think his homers will be cutting through AA and AAA air this year.

Not for nothing but Johnny's having a good spring! In addition to a few dingeroos, also hustling well with infield singles in his last two at-bats now. His lefty-ness could be useful especially if you're gonna carry Tejada as your other reserve infielder.

I didn't know this but Monell is Met Legacy: His Dad, Johnny Monell Sr., patrolled the Mets minor leagues for 6 years in the 80s.

I have to say that his usefulness as a second lefty off the bench is as good an argument for him over Recker as I've heard.

Over Plawecki? Fat chance.

Another week of this, though, and Recker gets TKO'd to Mountain time.

I suspect that the only thing fishing with Dreamboat gets you is an old rubber boot, or broken hearts.

No way.

Hey, it sucks that Edgin went pop, but the thing about left-handed specialists is they're not that rare or precious a commodity. And yeah, I'd say no more top shelf than an experienced, seasoned, slugging, sexy backup catcher.

I mean look at the dusty parts they got the job done with in recent seasons: Feliciano, on his fifth tour of duty, dialing his fastball up to 84 when things got really tight; Byrdak, who was scratching for just enough time served to get a lifetime pass; Rice, a 33-year-old rookie on his sixth organization, not counting his tours with indy teams and such.

Maybe Sandy doesn't successfully fill that job this year. He may totally screw it up. But I don't think it's unrealistic that the price on whomever they find (if indeed they look to the trade market) won't be much more than a backup catcher who looks great in diffused light.

Tweets reporting that Monell is on his way to New York to avenge himself upon the Orioles for keeping him down and dissing his glove. No transactions have been announced yet, so the corresponding move is still a matter of speculation.

Will be the first Bronx-born Met since Bobby Bonilla unceremoniously showed the Boogie Down to bob Kapisch.
