Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Brandon Allen has outlasted Allen Dykstra in the role of AAA first base insurance policy. Like Dykstra, he's a have-bat-will-travel type with middling-to-decent power and a fat walk rate. Unlike Dykstra, he's got himself an invitation to Mets spring training while Dykstra has moved on.[fimg=400]http://m.mlb.com/assets/images/7/5/8/101329758/cuts/allen1280_sew1i8h1_vfhe5ylh.jpg[/fimg]Plan B at first is probably to move Michael Cuddyer there if Duda gets himself broke, an replace him with John Mayberry et al. the outfield. But Allen comes to camp without a roster spot joining Eric Campbell as a solid Plan C. A SOLID PLAN C!What's your forecast for Brandon Allen's 2015 contributions to the New York Mets?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Even that seems sort of optimistic. He plays a little outfield, but it seems to me, unless he hits the cover off the ball, the only way gets called up is an injury to/abject failure by Duda and at least one other guy.The long, sad journey of Dykstra has taught me a thing or two. If you want to hear that phone ring, you've got to do more than hit (and walk) in order to make your own breaks. You've got to be versatile.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Proves versatility in changing his name to Allen Brandon. Tears up Vegas. Never gets Metsmerized.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 It would take, like, a multi-casualty left-fielder-carpool accident for him to see more than 18-20 PAs in September as part of a long-ass playing-out-the-string bench.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 If he's promoted, he will inspire several Byron Allen comparisons.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 I have 18 at-bats (24 PAs) down. Six hits. Six walks. Some power too. Maybe two homers. Maybe one homer and two doubles.Gets grabbed by St. Louis when the Mets try to pass him through waivers after having been stung by him the week before.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 He seems to me like a guy who will spend the entire season in Las Vegas.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Can't say the same for his bat but his fielding at first has been very impressive to me the spring. We got that covered 3 times over so unless more things go drastically wrong, yea, c u in Sept.
