Logan Verrett smashing so far for Baltimore: Nine innings, two earned runs, one walk, eight strikeouts.

The irony (and perhaps advantage) for the Mets is that possibly the best scenario for Logan Verrett making the team is if they shed a little Matusz.

Baltimore, for whatever reason, tried to slip Logan Verrett through waivers, and he's been claimed by the team the Mets are facing right now.

He retains his Rule V (or Rule 5 or Rule Five) status, so he still needs to stay on the 25-man roster or be offered back to the Mets.

TexXxas has activated Wandy Rodriguez and, to make room for him, DFA'd Logan Verrett.

Maybe the Mets get him back. Maybe he ends up back on Baltimore. I'm thinking he ends up taking a brief trip through KC or Chicago to replace one of the suspenderinos.

That's the type of factoid that Gary would go nuts over.

I'm sure there are several more. I know Eric Valent was one. A rare Rule 5 draftee with MLB experience, he.

Lenny DiNardo was another Rule 5ee that the team lost outright when he spent a full season on the Red Sox roster.

Another one was an interesting case. In 2002 they lost infielder Enrique Cruz to the Brewers. I had followed the switch hitting shortstop after reading that he had hit 47 home runs in about 250 At bats (not a misprint) in a Dominican junior league. But he never showed those skills in pro ball.
I thought he was gone forever, but he was re-signed by the Mets about 5 or 6 years ago, then released about a month later.
